Looks good. Reminds me of time when I had G73jh. I called it mobile workstation because it was huge and heavy. But this is Workstation which is smaller, lighter and much more powerful. Now I wonder about price. Because back in the day mine went something over $2000.

I don't think it's gonna be very expensive- just check it and see that Intel sells the 7700HQ at higher price then Ryzen 7 1700!.

Boy at 65w that thing is gonna throttle in that small body...That battery life is gonna be next to nothing but most likely you're not going to use just the battery if you're playing games.

Seeing as they disabled OCing, I'm guessing they may have also disabled XMP. The 1700 at 3GHz should have pretty reasonable performance without being too power hungry. Though still.... nobody needs a 16-thread gaming laptop... Even the 1600 is pretty ambitious.

That's why I'm more interested in 14" laptops based on Ryzen mobile.

You have battery on that thing, so you can move it around without shutting it down 🙂 I had 45W CPU + ~55W GPU and both OCed. Noisy, but no throttling or high temperatures. I am quite sure that there is certain frequency/voltage where it is very power efficient CPU. Same as it becomes very power hungry around 3.9~4.0 GHz where every 100MHz needs another 100mV.

I do aim for 12~13.3'', but 14'' would be OK too as long as space investment goes towards better battery life.

I like 14" segment because it gives a full keyboard. I like having a separate number pad.

It's interesting to see how this performs, especially seeing how low power consumption even desktop Ryzen has on very high idle frequencies. Unless I'm mistaken, a 2.2GHz octo Ryzen on idle uses the same amount of power as a quad Kaby on its own idle, which is 0.8GHz. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
