Anyone spending $1300 on a GPU would certainly just get a 4090, right? It's literally $300 difference for a lot more performance. This 4080 card is a piece of crap.

Exactly. I'll bet the same dimwit at Nvidia who set the pricing for the 4080 16gb was also behind the 4080 12gb fiasco which they withdrew.
The 16gb card will go down to $999 sooner or later when they realize its badly priced. The 4090 so far is the only card that makes sense in their pricing lineup.

Seems like a bizarre pricing strategy, a bit more gets you a 4090, a bit less gets you a 7900xtx.

The only time a 4080 would make sense (over a 4090) is if you needed something physically smaller. Well, this thing ain't really smaller than a 4090, so it really is a pointless product.

How well do we think the 7900xtx performs against the 4080, im assuming equal or beats the 4080 in Raster but falls back on RT?

They won't change the price until 4080Ti is released. Then it'll get moved to £999 while the Ti will be £1200.

Well, it doesn't help that you can't buy a 4090. So yeah, the 4080 will sell out because it's the only new card that will be available. In the US if you want a 4090 you are paying for a scalped card at $2500.

In the past the maxed out cards where the halo products that where there to mostly sell the lower bins / models now the 4080 and 7900xtx are there to make the 4090 and 7900xtx look like a great deal ... Isn't it obvious?

That or go AMD for 200-300 less. Need some proper reviews but I suspect AMD's raster in the 7900 XTX is going to beat the 4080 fairly well.

Nvidia really messed up the 4080 skews. The 12GB one was a complete cluster F that AMD was going to pound so of course Nvidia pulled it for a rename and price reduction. This 4080 16GB is too high of price and pushed just a bit too hard on frequency (will see some power limited testing to verify) to need too much cooling. The 4080 16GB really should have been a bigger die if Nvidia wanted to charge this much and have this kind of colling.
AMD has a real opportunity to capitalize this gen. This is the first time since the 5870 am I seriously considering going AMD so I suspect many others are as well.
