No problem here but big problems with having to buy a new platform and prices (announced) for AM5 motherboards are out of line and DDR5 price is also very high at this moment... There are also problems with cooling - some say that existing AM4 cooling solution will work, others like EK say that you need a new mounting system (
While the mounting hole pattern of the new AM5 socket is still 54 x 90mm, the AM5 motherboards now have an integrated CPU socket backplate with #UNC 6-32 threads, therefore requiring a new mounting system.
) so if you invested in a custom loop or high end closed loop you have to pay again or you are at the mercy of the cooling solutions manufacturers to provide an adapter - maybe.. I don't know - from the news 7950X seems like a real beast but with this economy and other more important expenses (prices for gas and energy up the roof here and winter is coming...) I think that I will keep my 5950X and skip the 7000 generation - let's see the 8000 - by that time if they keep the same socket prices for motherboards and RAM will be maybe more decent.

You havnt had to buy a new platform for a very long time, if people want to see advances in technology then they have to adopt change.

If you were an enthusiast, you have been buying new platforms every upgrade cycle. I can't remember the last time I upgraded in-socket. Probably X58. RAM was the only thing that carried over, and even then, if you were a regular Joe, you'd likely upgrade once every RAM cycle anyway.

Scalpers still gonna try to cause problems.

Yes, this is my concern. If there is enough product to screw over the profit margins of scalpers, or at least deter them, then bravo AMD. But I have strong doubts there will be enough.

Maybe he`s an enthusiast on a budget. Not everyone can or wants to buy a new platform everytime a new CPU is released. In my case, i would love to buy a better CPU if i could use it on my current MB, because there`s nothing i need from newer platforms.

The situation is different this time, so i don`t think scalpers are going to be an issue this time, but i could be wrong.

I will wait for reviews and prices here. If it was for onoy mobo and cpu, the. Probably would have upgraded, but ddr5 is still expensive, so there is that. Last time I went from LGA1151 to AM4, now maybe will go on AM5 as early as 2023

I always sell my old rig to fund the new one. Otherwise I'd have a stack of used CPU's lying around. I can't remember the last time I dropped a new CPU into an existing platform.....especially seeing as CPU's outlast most other parts of the system. By the time I need a new CPU, I'd hazard I'd need a new system as well.

Scalpers are always trying to scalp anything sinch ps3 launch in electronics. Mining or pandemic. So i still have concern since Ryzen has a lot of attention now and desire to have.

Was that directed at me, well ive been building custom PCs since AMD xp1600 and using fish pond pumps and a car radiator for a waterloop, ive built rigs using components from Intel, AMD and Intel but just buying each new release isnt what is required to be classed as an enthusiast. I recently built a scratch build open WCed case using an i7 2700k and a 7800gtx using wood and aluminium angle. Budget isnt a issue for me, the logistics of buying hardware is for geographical reasons. Throwing money at every new iteration of the same technology doesnt mean you are an enthusiast, it may mean the opposite in fact,

3800x and 6900xt, both in a custom loop, MSI 32" 4k screen and £1000 worth of flight sim controls ha ha, a room in my house just for my PC stuff. And as soon as its out il buy a Ryzen 9-7900X and whatever replaces the 6900xt, then an extreme edition MOBO and 64gb of fast RAM. So no not on a budget but my willy is big enough that i dont need to buy the latest of everything just to tell people about it. *EDIT, Should have said 6900xt

That`s cool. That means that i`m the enthusiast on a budget!:D And altough i can afford a new mid range system, i`m always thinking to myself if it`s worth because my current system is still good enough and because there`s nothing on the horizon that requires more firepower. Decisions, decisions...

1) AM5 mobos prices are the same as every other platform. marketing decides to always announce the highest end product first. X670E is totally unnecessary for the majority of enthusiasts - yet they are priced no more than a MSI "ACE" or "GODLIKE", or an ROG Maximus X670 on the other hand is beefy enough to OC (at the level of most of us) and has enough connectivity to satisfy 90% of the enthusiast market. - these boards cost up to the same as X570 the B series is playing the same game with an "E" variant. what's changed is the marketing of mobos as AMD decided to make the BOARD the HEDT component instead of board, chipset, and cpu 2) EK is the only party talking smack about new mounting hardware. i run custom loops and i KNOW i'll have zero difficulty mounting my Heatkiller IV

Exactly, i bought a new Civic Type R GT and it sits in my garage almost unused because i have a perfectly good E Class Merc that i use to go to work in, If anything i should have bought a scooter due to the traffic 😀:D:D:D But as ive mentioned elseware on this forum, im single, my kids have grown up, ive no mortgage or personal dept, a good job in a tax free country and 30 year investments that are all now maturing. I have no vices and as i live alone my gas and electricity bill are almost non-existent ha ha ha ha. Ok the pool isnt cheap to run. My point being that even though i can afford to buy every and all the latest kit, i wont have my pants pulled down, why pay £2k for a 4k 32" monitor when i found a great MSI one for half that, same with my 6900xt over a 3090Ti, or keeping my 3800x even though DCS is putting it under strain now in complex AI heavy missions. PS, i only fly business to the UK and back due to the extra baggage i can have, 64kg is a lot of PC hardware 😉

Thats something i was concerned about, i have a great CPU block and didnt fancy changing it for another expensive one, il buy a cheaper one that will follow my current MOBO/CPU/RAM into a new build just for video work.
