Why didnt they just add 14gbps at the end? 5600xt and 5600xt 14gbps. Not like nvidia didnt do that before with 1060 and 1060 9gbps.

This whole ordeal makes my stomach churn. I like AMD, but this was unexpected and made me backtrack some steps.

And the performance is close behind or a bit more in some cases, than an rx 5700 (where 8gb of vram is its main advantage). I would think it to have been better to lower the price of the rx 5700, or reduce the GPU core count in between the 5500 xt and the 5700, but they likely found a second-use case for faulty rx 5700 chips (possibly with faulty memory controllers?). But at least there is a lot more choice and the competition is always welcome.

Hilarious, but not unexpected.

Well, I'll skip this one. I waited patiently for so long, just for this. Thanks, but no thanks.

You can buy an XFX 5700 for $329.99 right now on Newegg, and that comes with BL3 or Ghost Recon game codes free. I'm pretty sure you can even flash it to 5700XT BIOS. A 5600XT for anything over $289.99 is a joke.

Yeah, in EU GPUs prices are a brazen joke.

RMA's and negative customer feedback incoming. Seriously I'd be pissed if I bought one of these on day one and ended up getting a gimped version.

You can easily flash the bios yourself with a few clicks.

Isn't the memory physically the same? Unless you test each internally how can you determine which is capable of running at 14gbs? I imagine the product has already been packaged for minimum of two weeks with initial reference specs.

They are the same. From what i seen the 12gbps caards can be easily overclocked to 14gbps to they should all be capable running those speeds.

Do you rebuild cars engine if it is not according to its specs? Also, if there no dual-bios, there a chance of sending your video card straight to trash can.

Not according to the article we are posting. Else why the concern for RMA's?

My friends in AUS and EU are complaining abt the same thing. Prices of tech stuff in general. Why is that? Is it because of the manufacturer or the tax imposed by the government?
It's because of both as well as middle man clipping the ticket. In my part of the world the 5700 xt is between 6 and 700 US dollars. The 2080 Ti is between 1500 and 1800 US dollars. I'm sorry, but that's highway robbery compared to what you can get them for in America.

More like a ecm mod chip to boost a bit of power and torque, that's a dumb analogy... The mentioned xfx 5700 dd has a dual bios.
Good, you got the idea of messing with a car! Analogy of having consumer to fix product by themselves sounds pretty much dumb to me.

Gotta admit, just buying a reference 5700 and flashing it to an almost-XT is looking like a MIGHTY good deal, if I were shopping for a card right now. Reminds me of when I flashed my 9800 SE (I think?) to a 9800 Pro. As an aside, it's good that AMD and responded to Nvidia with a new bios, but this whole thing could have been avoided if they weren't so naive in the first place.

Idk i like the idea of tinkering with the card. Overclocking, undervolting, its fun, not just plug and play. I guess thats the difference between an nvidia and amd card.

We all love overclocking and tinkering - that's why we're here. That's not quite the same thing as AMD panicing and releasing a new bios to avoid their new card being dead on arrival. They very nearly had another 5500 on their hands. Cards without the new bios will be on the shelves for some time and people who don't religiously follow the hardware news won't know any better. It's a farce.

My point exactly, not everyone tinkers or even overclocks their hardware let alone updates their bios right out of the box.
