I have been opting getting a Viewsonic-PJD5150 projector for family & friends outdoor movie night endeavors but perhaps if this one is reasonable in price, I would want to get it. What do you think other Gurus? Any recommendations & experience would be appreciated.

Pr No technical specifications? Like brightness in lumens. Usually they are not announced when they are not very good. Projector must produce 2500 lumens for 100" screen in order to get good quality, especially if it is not completely dark or window blinders are leaking light.

Teach me more fellow Guru, I am saving up for an outdoor movie night type projector. What are your recommendations?

There are plenty of Internet resources, to calculate minimum requirements: http://www.projectorpeople.com/resources/lumen-guide.asp You have to know screen size, position and distance to projector first. "Outdoor" projector is interesting case, since you have to take into account sunset time and how bright and close street lights are. If your projector is too weak for the screen then you will have to take into account full moon when planing a party 🙂. Also depends if you are planing to show 3D content, which needs to nearly double brightness. All 3D theatres, I've been, except IMAX, completely ruined 3D with greed, because they saved money on brightness. Then, there is a noise issue, because cities have penalties if you exceed 40-80 decibels over a period of 10-15 minutes on residential properties. Do you want to go wireless or use higher quality, comfortable headphones with headphone amplifier like Behringer PowerPlay HA8000. Depends how much you are planing to spend. $1 or 1 billion dollars on diamond encrusted projector, made of pure platinum which comes with its own private island in Maldives 🙂. Google is your friend.

Viewsonic-PJD5150 have native SVGA 800 x 600 resolution, which is 4:3 aspect ratio. Not good for modern movies with wider than 16:9 aspect ratio. Black bars and resizing to non standard resolution will result in bad quality. You can find Full HD (1920x1080) projectors with similar price and brightness (3000+ lumens). Make sure projector is recent model, because DLP technology (like mirrors used inside) is changing too: http://cdn.avsforum.com/3/3b/3baf7c5b_vbattach84153.jpeg

ThankQ for the lumens guide link and while I was at the techmall in my city Malaysia, I stumble upon the Optoma HD26, which had all the features you've trait out. But it is out of my budget, in USD it's at 749$. The store clerk tips that I could get their previous model collection, the Optoma HD142x for order. It's price is 628$, which I think is worth it. But I would want to make more research xD
