If conquest and all the rest of the content don't interest you perhaps. BF1 sold fine without having a Battle Royale mode. I'm personally looking forward to it.

This game will likely be the definition of dead on arrival.

Likewise and I do not think the BF crowd cares much about the battle royale mode either. I still play BF1, BF4, and Bad Company 2 when life/free time allows and the vast majority of servers play conquest only. Occasionally rush or frontlines in BF1 (neither is a big departure from conquest) and rarely a single populated TDM server. I bet battle royale mode is going to be played for a few weeks before it disappears from rotation on active servers. ...I get it EA/DICE, battle royale is still the trendy thing. You have to try to draw in the kiddos and streamers, but BF has always hinged on team / squad play and core audience for the series doesn't care. Edit: core audience = "old" dudes like me who actually spend money on this series

The big publishers simply do not care or even realise that most of their players are not interested in battle royale modes and it's becoming forced on you, me personally i won't buy a game even if it's a franchise that i enjoy or even love if it has a battle royale mode in it as i find it a one trick pony mode. Look what's happened to Black Ops for reference but gaming is going down a very narrow path it seems and that's not great.

Think if Uncharted, Mario, Dark Souls, Red dead redemption or any other big game was planned to release now, they had side mode BR in works too, would you like the base game to be delayed 6 months just because of the BR mode? Of course you wouldnt, so why should BF? BF releasing now is fine for most BF fans, if BR fans want BR then whats the problem for BF releasing now and BR mode releasing at march if your gonna wait for the BR anyway?

Blame Twitch for that. Fortnite, BO4, and PUBG consistently have hundres of thousands of viewers almost at all times. You can't blame devs for trying to get a piece of those players/viewers.

I have never understood people who watch other people play, rather than playing themselfs :S

They should have added a BR mode to BF1 by now, and BFV should have it on release. If anything, it shows difficulty to adapt fast and be reactive. Organization, managing efficiency issues? Meanwhile they're promoting the solo campaign that no one care about lol. Looks like this company needs a reality check, i hope some indie studios gonna disrupt their market and make them react.

In my mind Battlefield and Battle Royale are two different things.

I still play BF1942, and BF Vietnam! But I'm stoked BF5 has single player.

I bet most players will have moved on to other games by next year. I mean what's the point in investing time in a game that gets replaced annually? Also I'm not into the whole "rush mode" alá battle royale gameplay style (lack of tactics), but then again I can just keep playing ArmA and Tarkov.

I want what made BFBC2 great. The incredible Rush maps. That's it. Period. We've had great gameplays because they had the best maps for Rush Mode. Exactly the opposite happened afterwards in BF3. Then stopped with BF, too, like I stopped COD... um, don't remember when, CODs were so many back then. They still play BFBC2 usually Rush even today with full servers. And now this? BF as a service? They thought the Win 10 model. Nice ( ala South Park ).

It doesn't have an annual cycle... it's a 2 year release cycle. Besides all the old battlefield games are still being played today... go into bf4 or even bf3, and there are many full servers.

That's not very encouraging since I still play Battlefield 2 with various mods. However I won't touch BF3 or BF4 again and haven't played since 2017.

Yeah it does sadly. Hit detection will be all over the place. Plus those moments when you run behind cover but somehow still get shot will be high. The beta ran at 60hz so they lied to rope people in and then turned it down to cut costs. Minimum tick rate should be 30hz in 2018. BF2 had a 10hz default tick rate in 2005. I was interested in Blackout till I read this. Shame really, but Activision couldn't care less about PC gamers it would seem. I can see why they didn't use steam, to avoid justified review bombing.
I'd argue that minimum tick rate should be 60 hz... there is a very noticable difference in bf4 when playing on a 30 hz server vs a 60 hz server.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/238/238382.jpg
I don't know why they don't use a variable tick rate depending on the distance players are from one another.
