Dice hired a guy that directed Candy Crush, to direct a Battlefield game.
No wonder BF 2042 is a complete mess.
He should have left before starting BF 2042.
And Dice should have hired someone that knows how to make good games, in his place.

Actually good news, hopefully a lot of the new hirelings also leave and HOPEFULLY the ones that stay get their shit straight and deliver (because I doubt any of the veterans that left would even consider coming back).

Exactly.
That's why BF 2042 removed the class system, that worked so well for decades.
And instead implemented the Operators. This way they can keep making up operators to sell them.
That's why there's a ton of identical attachments for weapons, that players have to unlock, before getting the ones they need.
This way they can sell skins, XP boosters, unlocks for attachments, etc...
It's all about milking every cent out of gamers. Not about making a good Battlefield game.

Having a lead developer leave EA is like overthrowing a corrupt leader in a country: if you don't get rid of everyone else involved, whoever takes his place is going to be just as bad.
He didn't seem to do that good of a job but EA games are not going to get better any time soon. I'll still be boycotting.

Gaming has become so big and profitable, that there's a lot of non-gamers entering the industry.
This is not an issue for most jobs. It doesn't matter if someone making textures, models, music, sound, etc., isn't a gamer.
But we can't have game mechanics being implemented by people that don't understand games.
We wound's put someone that doesn't understand anything about cars, making a car.
So we should not have people that don't understand games, making the decisions about how a game plays.

I've been playing free games for years, they offer you the option to grind or pay to move faster, but at least the grind is enjoyable.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, CoD:MW 2019, Forza 5, Doom eternal, Watch Dog:Legion, AC:Valhalla, Far Cry 6, MS Flight Simulator 2020, there's a ton of high quality games out there.
Also now that everyone has access to the tools to make insane quality indie games you end up with talented individuals leaving the unfulfilling large studio environment to create their own indie studio.
The Ascent is a nice recent example.

Sadly, I think you'll see that it was a case of:
Contract was for X period of time, or,
Contract was specifically to hit a target release date for BF2042 by X date, or,
(1) + (2)
If whichever number is accurate, I can guess quite firmly, he was paid a bonus for that numbered outcome, by contract.
What I am saying is his contract was flawed, by design, however, he should NOT have signed that contract, and DICE/EA never should have given a green light to someone on a timed contract, or, deterministic contract
Bad move by all - and that is not even before we boot the game, which for me was about as palatable a task as deleting my boot.ini file from Windows.
