Asus NAS products are really on between low hardware-good software Synology and good hardware-bad software by QNAP. No price was mentioned in the article.

It is kinda discouraging. My own 10Gbps NIC is 2.0x4 so I guess they can fit that performance into just 3.0x2 and let the SSDs timeshare the other two lanes, or maybe everything will timeshare all lanes and be a nice traffic jam all around.

It is a 10g Ethernet with the ability to stick extra an nvme disk! I find this as a good idea ! You would rarely running full tilt 1gb/s network and 4gb / sec reads or writes on the nvme .... Even transferring from the 10g network in the same drive at full speed the pcix 3 2x is enough .if anything this is clever use of your limited lanes ...
