4500mhz and it needs liquid cooling....I would bet my house that coffee lake 6 core could hit 4.6ghz on air easily, just likethe 7700k. Imagine if intel had focused on getting a 4 and 8 core coffeelake running properly and focused on ryzen instead of this kneejerk threadripper response on this fail platform x299. We might have gotte legit mainstream 8 core cpus on 1151. Coffeelake already has more pci lanes than the lowest few skylake x cpus and some x370 motherboards have 3 m.2 slots as well. That would have given everyone exactly what they wanted. There is no need for skylake x to even exist. I wouldn't even want one over what I have now. Over a thousand dollars for a gaming performance downgrade...

7700kk on air 4.6.... if you delid yes, or if you get an expensive AIO €100+. My 1600X at 4.2 uses a Gammax s40 that costs €22 keeps my cpu at 68ºC max when i stress. Scores the same as a 7700k at 4.8ghz, and at stock is 2-4% slower then a stock 8700k (using the leaked reviews)

Yah, it's not a gaming platform, there is no need for a 7900X for gaming. It's the Industry, the punters and the youtubers who pimp these platforms as 'gaming platforms', same goes for TR, if you are buying these things for the sole purpose of gaming, you are wasting your money (but hey, it's your money so do as you please 😉 ) FYI, the 7700K gets to 4.6Ghz on air because it has only 4 cores, not 10. X299 is far from a 'fail' platform. The 7900X OC's to 4.3Ghz (from 3.3Ghz) with no issues. The heat issues only come from people trying to hit clock speeds that are higher than that. Nowhere do I see Intel guaranteeing that you are going to be able to hit 4.6Ghz++ without significant cooling,. There were definitely mistakes made with the X299, but I run two of them now and I will be picking up the 7980X when it drops, I have to say, apart from the fact that I don't like the MSI board (didn't really want to buy it but EVGA were not available and still aren't) which has nothing to do with X299 and more to do with MSI's inability to address problems that were around long before X299 dropped, I am very happy with my 7900X(s).

Delid? My 6700k has been 4.6 on air since day 1 out of the box, why would the 7700k have any problem when it's turno clocks are 4.5 on all 4 cores with default clocks and voltage...

The 16 core theeadripper has been power usage and temps than a 10 core i9...there is literally no way to rationalise it. Reviewers showed the power usage going up by some insane amount...like 200% MORE power drain when applying a 15% overclock... X299 is intels bulldozer in terms of what it delivered, it's cost to performance ratio etc....and that's not including the locked off chipset.

I just upgraded to a 7820X from a 4790K build and the performance I'm able to extract is great. I keep mine at 4.8GHz@1.281V on all 8c (100MHz more than I could manage with the 4790K). Use AIDA64 for about 30-60 min. Some cores will temporarily spike to 90ish but will stress test in 80s. Combined with some tweaked 3200MHz Dominator Plats at around 60ns, pumps out some serious perf. Will also hold stable at 5.0GHz@1.31V but an AIO is just not gonna cut it for cooling. Delid may take care of that. Got the chip for $500. I'm impressed really. It seems these 7900s really have trouble managing the 10c count. Any plans to do a X299 board review with a 7820X Hilbert?

Had the TUF Mark 1 and a 7820x from launch, hands down one of the better boards I've used on the HEDT. (Had a few x99 boards including the Asus Strix which killed 2 6900k cpus). The lack of RGB is a plus for me. Got a nice little 4.7Ghz@1.19v overclock. What people forget is set a AVX offset, it lowers power consumption and heat, for the 4.7Ghz overclock, I have 4Ghz on the AVX/AVX512, you really don't need any higher than that.

No I cannot get my hands on one unless I purchase it. Intel does not communicate anymore with the bigger part of EU press.

Same here before had an 4790k. Now 7820x and obviously tuf mark1. Without any difficulties with core volt 1.18 e vccio 1.031 rest all auto, i have stable 4.7ghz never had a bsod with aida 64 and fftz test 75-78° on my old h100 4fans push-pull. I'm going to buy an artic liquid freezer 240 soon. Sure cpu can do more but i'm more than satisfied. The question day is? Anybody of u has made the bios upgrade to 802? I tried but can't start overclock neither autoverclock too. In both every times before starting disks (raid0) systems loop to bios so never loaded win 10. Reverting back to 702 all was fine as described on top. Ps my avx/512 are set to 4 so 4.3
