I had to sign up for this site just to comment on all the replies that say this monitor is overpriced and a ripoff. In 2010 I paid $1200 for a 2560x1600 monitor @ 60Hz. The LG W3000H. This monitor has 120Hz (which is great for gaming obviously). AND it has G-Sync. For only $700!!!! I paid nearly double that for a 60Hz monitor without G-Sync. I constantly wished that my monitor could do 120Hz. Add to the fact that there has been no monitors with 120Hz at that resolution. So the option to upgrade was not available. After going from 1200p to 1600p. Which is about 2 million more pixels. I couldn't ever go back especially for gaming. Now you guys can get this for only $700 with G-Sync. Even if it didn't have G-Sync it would still be more than worth it for the money. Most people spend on this site at least that much on their hardware if not more. You're screen is just as important as your entire computer. In fact some of the people saying this is a ripoff spent at least $600 on their graphics cards alone. Anyways just had to get that off my chest.

Welcome aboard! This ASUS monitor isn't really that cheap it depends on what you're looking at. Your LG monitor has IPS panel and color accuracy way better than PG278Q. Also, 30" monitors are significantly more expensive than 27" ones, and it's one of the reasons why I picked 27" over 30". I've just checked Amazon prices, and you could get my Dell U2713H for $800, and HM version for $650. They've got IPS panels and brilliant color reproduction, especially H. $700 for TN is a ripoff in my opinion, but for other people it may be ok. Just for now, my dream monitor would be zero-lag non-TN 4k@60Hz monitor with fallback to FullHd@120Hz, G-Sync, and some EIZO Foris features. I might pay quite a lot for such thing.

Non-TN? I didn't know they still make CRTs. :P

Quick Note: I don't know where I had the $700 price tag at it's actually $800 well $799 is the MSRP. That is true as this is not an IPS panel. Didn't realize that. According to Asus website this is what they said:
"Why is the display TN rather than IPS/PVA/MVA, etc? Not all TN’s are made the same: the premium panel used in the PG278Q is of very high quality. IPS panels (and their derivatives like PVA/MVA etc) are not suitable for a multitude of reasons: 1) the response rate is simply not fast enough to react to the active change in refresh rate and 2) They cannot reliably achieve >60Hz without significantly affecting the quality of the image. IGZO technology (and LTPS – low temperature polysilicon – likewise) – yields 100***8242;s of times faster electron mobility versus standard amorphous silicon panels – and thus can provide a response rate comparable to TN (up to 60Hz currently), but, however desirable this technology is, it is still currently cost prohibitively for many PC gaming enthusiasts in 2014, which is why ROG has used a better price:performance, high quality TN panel."
So we'll have to see in reviews at how it compares in color reproduction to an IPS panel. Which will be a few months away.

It's not so expensive and not very cheap. I would say it could be priced a bit lower. Its WQHD monitor which does 144hz and has also Gsync. Yes its a TN but its a custom made native 8bit TN without dithering unlike most TNs which are 6bit with dithering. The price is high but not too high. What makes it a killer for me is that has WQHD with 144hz and Gsync all together. IPS has great colour reproduction but they are very slow panels. Most of them are 7-8ms G2G while this is 1ms. It's a fast big beautiful monitor packed with one of them most amazing techs out there. Gsync. I would be extremely happy if it was priced around 500-550 US dollars but at least they packed tons of cool features there. What I don't like is the absence of HDMI ports. It has only 1 DP port. PC monitors are still a bit expensive and most of them are stuck in 1080p while even tablets and smartphones advanced into the 2K. PC monitors supposed to jump straight to 4K but are still a bit far from 4K mainstream sub 500$ monitors and 4K is not supported by all games and we still need monstrous GPU power to run at 60fps. So 4K needs few years more to become the next standard. Till then this monitor can happily keep waiting.

This will be my next screen, it will have dvi input? Just looked around and only dp because gsync does not work over dvi, still I will buy should be a good step up from my Asus VG278HE 144hz

No G-Sync is Displayport only and it only supports one input.
