Why?

It does look a bit weird with these cut-outs from the PCB instead of just using a full square.

I care about performance, not looks. That is what Apex i all about πŸ˜‰

So this is the successor to my Rampage V, damn, now I'm officially obsolete. πŸ˜€ If it weren't for the weird corner cuts I'd maybe like it, but like this... meh, I just hope it doesn't become a trend. Even in the aesthetics department, X399 boards look way better imo. And yes, when I do dish out this amount of money I DO care a LOT about aesthetics, especially with a windowed side panel.

I feel like they made this motherboard so that way they could sell it to consumers, but with a design choice in mind to fit a custom case from a high end PC manufacturer(that they were working with, so that this motherboard is the only motherboard that will work for that company, and therefore ASUS gets all the business from the selling of those pre-built high end PCs). If not, i can't fathom why the cut outs in the PCB are there.

When Kaby-Lake came out 16 world records in overclocking them were set on the Rampage Motherboard. Asus selling point for this board is "Taking performance to the ragged edge." Thus the motherboard has "ragged edges" to drive home the point.

There is also x299 Rampage VI πŸ˜‰ Looks like the RVE 10 x99.

they used the same heat sink design for the VRM like the zenith extreme x399, with a heatpipe connecting them. i guess they learned from the first x299 motherboards that plastic instead of metal is a thermal insulation instead of a conductor

Nice, I like that more than this, even though that huge RGB surface is a bit over the top too. :P

Maaaaaaaan I want m some 41,000+ MHZ memory support!!! HA! I know its a typo, but I couldn't help it with the specs sheet saying 41,000 something speed for RAM. And man that would be sad as all getout if one was to be left with x4 PCI-e lanes after all four gfx cards were slapped in there. This board is absolutely hideous...

I don't think it's a typo but instead they are talking about the DIMM.2 RAM slot that does like 43Gbps for the SSD's ? Altough I do believe that the maximum bus width would be 32Gb/s?

Stealing Stealing PCB from the board and making it look like crap. Marketed as innovative !

Awesome board! Would love to own one or two, a few 7900X's and vast amounts of Ln2!

is that dual dimm.2 slots bootable? will be nice to add extra storage though

This is by far the best designed motherboard I've ever seen. Cable management will be amazing.
How do you figure cable management will be amazing? The cut outs do not align to any holes on a case (for obvious reasons: cases would have no reason to put holes there since that's not how every single other motherboard is made) So, how do you figure cable management will be amazing?

Why tilt the sata ports like that, but still looks damm good.

Looks like a half eaten cracker. Not fan of this "broken" PCB design. But being a ROG means it must look edgy. You can't sell "gaming" branded things in premium prices unless they look fancy and edgy. Beside the features ofc.

Well, they made it literally edgy. Mission accomplished. πŸ˜€

Damn! This thing looks extreme! Kinda ugly though.
