No point in the 280, its being canned in about a month or 2 (supposedly), being replaced by Tonga.

For someone who has 7870 or less this would still be a great upgrade. To go to a single card from my crossfire it would be a very slight upgrade. Just because it will be canned soon, doesnt make it a bad product of release. And the cooler is much better looking IMHO. I personaly hate the Direct CuII coolers.

Too bad they didnt make an R9 280X version of the card. I like the looks of the card.

The fan should never be idle. You always want air flow moving the heat away from the card and the components that are mounted on the card otherwise you will have hot spots on the card that would not be present with the fan running. I would hate to go and push the card and then find that the fan didn't spin up which would either cause the computer to shut off or the card to go boom

Yeah I agree with you there. I wouldn't trust the card to cool with out the fans spinning. If something malfunctions then your card is toast.
