Can someone explain to me why would any miner buy this instead of a proper graphic card ? U potentially could be throwing all of those directly in to the bin when difficulty of mining is raised and even if they do sell - those chip factories are going to have a tough time doing that and still finding some time in making everything else for actual gamers - so this potentially would not change the situation of emptiness in shops.

Lets see if turns into another thread about Killers, Hackers, Drug and Slave Dealers 🙂

Says in the article: +36% hashrate compared to regular GP106, IP5X, continuous use fans. NV/AMD would surely prefer selling these SKUs to miners over regular GPUs, in order to prevent 2nd hand flooding afterwards. Maybe Asus/Sapphire are getting some incentive for building them.

How they achieved better hash rate ?

tighter memory timings maybe? If they just overclocked them, it would be a waste of time because any serious miner looks to lower the temps and electricity costs, so, they lower the voltage first and see where that gets them. PS. It doesn't really matter at this point. Big miners have their rigs built already, smaller ones were the last wave that emptied the used cards market...I am saying that personaly I don't think there is much market left for these.

i believe there are no chip can provide better hash rate all chip should perform exactly same, even the one with better ASIC quality it only mean OC+temp difference gpu memory seems the things asus tweak, wonder if asus do more than that actually i am quite curious regarding this, maybe boss can get review unit ? even if asus comparing to normal clock(regular) model, still +36% is quite impressing wonder if this really work and not only marketing bs

I wish I understood how graphics cards are used for mining.

Put simply, the same way any other device is used to crunch numbers: processing power and efficiency within.

It's quite possible that these are being released with mining optimized bios right from the factory. Some miners mod the bios themselves and you can get ~30-40% increased performance from it. That claim of +36% performance sounds like just about the right increase going from a stock to modded bios. The stickler here is the rumor that they will only have 90 day warranty... which if true makes them worthless crap imo.

It would have to be the memory - ETH mining is heavily dependent on memory speed and latency. My GTX 1060 does 19 Mh/s on stock but can do 22 Mh/s if I overclock the memory, and my RX 580 can do 27.5 Mh/s with a memory boost (stock is 24). He'll, even my GTX 1080 can do 26 Mh/s if I crank up the RAM (stock is 21). They probably bundled the card with very fast RAM.
