Finally, an ITX board with four RAM slots, PCI-E, and other connectivity - so now it can be more than just an ATM. I could actually get some content creation work done with this!

Not only that, but this actually seems to make use of the extra PCIe bandwidth. 10Gbps Ethernet is a really nice feature to have integrated. I don't like how you can have a perfectly good chipset "wasted" on a board that can't take advantage of it, but this one does.

Asus: There's only 1cm between the PCB and the video card. No choice but to install a tiny, high RPM fan for the chipset. Asrock: Let's change the PCB design so that the chipset is elsewhere and there's room for a decent passive heat sink. Asus: ???

So this doesn't have a 24-pin power connector... Has an 8-pin and two 4-pin EPS connectors so I'm guessing that second 4-pin at the bottom-right corner is what is powering the motherboard? But that means you'll also need a PSU with three EPS cables since the two 4-pins are both the left side of a 4+4 cable along with the 8-pin.

10 Gbit Nics had quite big heat sinks, some had even active cooling.. Its this progress or disaster or some paper 10Gbit - 2.5 Gbit in real port?

This is the ultimate NAS or router/firewall (or both) motherboard. Those are dual Intel 10GbE ports controlled by an Intel X550-AT2 chip, along with a another 1GbE port for remote management. That chip next to the D-sub video output is an ASpeed AST2500 BMC that provides basic graphical output, therefore there is no need to have a dGPU or an APU. Support for ECC RAM, and storage wise it has 8 SATA ports and a PCI.E 4.0 x4 NVME M.2 Then there's the 16 lanes of PCI.E 4.0 to add whatever else you want, either a ton more storage, hardware RAID, more 10GbE. Even USB is decent with two 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A and a header for another USB 31. Gen 1. I can't wait to see what this thing is priced at...been waiting for something like this to come out for ages.

It's true, Ryzen CPUs have ECC support, but it's down to the motherboard to properly use and implement true functionality. Asrock have the most efforts spent in this direction, for prosumer motherboards. Things are different in server grade motherboards.

ASRock Rack had a few motherboards with similar layouts in the past (e.g. EPYC3251D4I-2T). On those the 2nd 4-pin ATX 12V connector was there to provide power for SATA devices.

So since the x570 chipset is cooled by the CPU fan on the typical OEM 'downdraft' style cooler, why can't larger motherboards do this? For two cents I'd almost wager I could run my bottom front case fan off the header for the chipset fan on my x570 board... IF it was directed enough at the chipset. Not that I've ever heard the chipset fan yet in 6 months (I haven't). So with a modest processor 3600/3600x, a modest graphics card, I could build my retired 70 year old mother the best "Multiplayer Solitaire Deathmatch" machine in town. SWEET! She's going to love that. That's her absolute favorite game.

I was under the impression that ECC was only "validated" on Ryzen Pro chips ? Still, this is a motherboard that I could easily buy to replace my ITX Nas motherboard.... Just waiting for the eye-watering price 🙂

I was under the same impression. The Pro line for Ryzen family address to certain professional grade workstations. But reality is different. The Ryzen CPUS can work with ECC ram, but having the ram memory validated and also enabled fully and working as it should it is a different story. There are a lot of threads about building Ryzen NAS with full ECC support needed for ZFS file system. And very few motherboards are having ECC ram fully enabled and running.
