@Hilbert Hagedoorn Just asking, no DVI connector? Or did you mean no SLI connector?

@fantaskarsef I also think he meant SLI connector since that indeed was the missing thing from the board leak last week.

Well then, both really 🙂 SLI /NVLink is missing, but it is a rendering. But the past couple of years the DVI connector always/often sat on top of a HDMI/DP connector for NV and it's partners. Thus when you look at the connector the most right position. You can see nothing here on the photo, indicating DVI is missing. Oh look 😀 Well, the more you know. Since there are converters I guess it's no big issue that it's gone anyway.

I'd think there was a possibility that the NVLink connector is just hidden by the shroud. No DVI finally, means that this can be single slot with a waterblock 🙂

My 1080Ti is watercooled and single slot since I got it already... just buy cards that don't have a DVI like reference cards 🙂

Looks like I will finally have an excuse to upgrade from DVI to either DP or HDMI.

I have STRIX 1080Ti and I use DVI connector. I hope Asus and other partners continue adding DVI connector. More connectors means more options which is always a good thing.

Why can't we just get a boxed converter from HDMI/DP to DVI? that way, you get to fit more ports and/or give more breathing room for the 2nd expansion slot. Those converters are very cheap. GPUs used to come with DVI to VGA adapters. As for the lacking SLI slot, is this because it will be SLI-incompatible or are they pulling an AMD by using the PCIe bus for inter-card communication?

This is what I immediately thought, chances are these cards aren't utilizing the full speeds of PCIE anyway.

Shhh don't say that out loud, you might offend the people who think PCIe 4.0 will improve their gaming experience 😉

i thought the name was finalized to 2080 .... or just linus said that ? oh well does not matter at all what they are called really

Yeah I thought the same thing, but then there are other sources that say 1180 was finalized so... I guess we're going to be in version-number limbo until Nvidia finally tells us what it really is. I suppose the good news is after this generation, there shouldn't be any more ambiguity for a long while, unless we get another GTX 800 series situation (in the sense that it didn't exist for desktop parts). EDIT: Meanwhile, if 2080 is the route they go for, there will be some confusion once the 6000-9000 series comes along a few years down the road.

@schmidtbag 6000-9000 meeeh for the 6000 series ... i mean they are away at LEAST 6 years if not 8 ...... i do not think anyone will remember the 6000 series from amd or the 600 kepler from nvidia to be a factor ...but i want to see an nvidia 9700 ! :P

Well HDMI to dual link DVI doesn't exist so those with high refresh rate monitors are out of luck; I don't think someone who buys a 1180 is going to have a generic 60hz monitor with only DVI. DP to HDMI/DVI is a $40 adapter as DP is a totally different signal than DVI/HDMI making an active converter necessary for most monitors. That means it doesn't make sense to include one either way.

DP to DVI adapters cost about $8 retail. I use a DP to VGA when connecting to projectors at work. It was $6.

You ignored where I said active adapter. Many monitors require active adapters, regular passive cables would not work in such a case.

Those that are in need for an adapter, most likely dont require an active one, hence incl the simple one. The ppl that have high refresh stuff, can upgrade. Haven't seen a recent "quality gaming screen" that doesn't have either dpnor hdmi, and why sacrifice colling/space related stuff for the larger group of users, vs the much smaller group of high fps gamers that still run old screens. while we're at it,wanna bring vga back.. 🙄

Non-active adapters should work on low bandwidth monitors. Active adapters will work to about 2560x1440p 120hz, near the limits of DVD-DL and usually cost upwards of $50. Anything above that, you need HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.2 or above. With high res, high refresh monitors becoming the norm, can see why DVI-DL is on the way out. Though still think should be included on GPUs for next couple years or so.

VGA is still alive and kicking!!!!
