How about the price-performance, Apple? Two kidneys aren't enough to pay the price.

To be fair. Those SoC chips are 58 billion transistor chips. Makes something like 3090 look tiny.

Bonkers performance/power ratio, with a batshit crazy price to match. Can’t wait to see how these bench. πŸ˜€

That has never been a concern for Apple...

Its about double the transistors of the 3090 and about 1/3 smaller die size. That 5nm from TSMC is damn good.

I was hoping for a cheaper 14" model with a "low cost" screen, but they went all out on both.

FTA: > when compared to undisclosed "PC laptop chips" Might want to double-check those screencaps. While Apple has generally been vague in their comparisons, this time they actually included the specific PCs they're comparing against in the bottom right corner of those graphics.

while it is completely against Apple's business model i would love M1 Pro and Max (new show on Apple TV?) to be a stand alone APU. that way we could impartially bench it, tweak it, slap a loop on it, say it's my baby, and call it a day.

Not gonna lie, I'm slightly tempted.

I was and still am leery of whatever Apple sells and pulls out if their marketing. But something caught me by surprise and tried to see with a objective mindset and just take in account the numbers and results. Here is the video which made me rethink a bit some things. [youtube=X0DIHlnD_S0] M1 is something that made me rethink some things.

Just looked a bit over them, the 14 inch pro models seem to be reasonable priced, 16 inch not so much. M1 Mini price looks very interesting, I wonder if a 16GB version could run a full studio DAW....

The memory architecture part of it is very good. CPU is alright for a laptop but to put things into perspective... in Passmark Apple M1 : 15,132 AMD Ryzen 9 5950X: 46,127 ie. if you want to do serious processing/editing - then don't use a laptop at all - and definitely don't pay Apple $2,000 to $6,000 for the privilege (yes I know single core is a bit faster)

You are comparing apples and oranges. An 8 core (4+4) vs a 16/32, a mobile cpu vs desktop cpu, 40w vs 120w... I dont even know what are you trying to do here... Get the mobile ryzen or the 11th gen and look at the numbers.

don't even know what you are trying to do here? he is talking about someone having some real work to do, and how they should be using the correct tools for the job.

So you should take your 5k 15 kg PC from home, put it in a backpack and carry it around the world so you can do "real work"?

My only issue with Macbooks is the OS tbh. I just do not like it. Tho then again. I do have a Lenovo shitepad. Which I do not use. As I tend to not use laptops anyway πŸ˜€ not my thang.

The thing is nothing can compare to M1 unless AMD and Intel bring out SoC's it's harder to make such a thing without making an SoC.

Well I think people are talking about different things here. The macbook is more then enough for doing some work on the go. While having a really high-end multicore setup at home for some more time intensive work.

Don't be silly. This is the same company that charges 1k for a monitor stand. Think I'd rather build a new gaming PC or buy an OLED TV, that's right, a whole TV which comes with a stand.
