There was a time when Macs were the end of all in creative work, now you can get same experience pretty much on a pc for less (of course mac is easier to get a complete package that works as it's supposed to). I talked to a friend she tought Macs have some magic hardware that makes them way better then pcs and lies about some software not being for windows when it was 😀 Now Apple has to be give credit for their design and form factor.

I have actually. And I also know the term 'overpriced'. Usually seen when an 'Apple' logo is present, this being no exception. Are you sure you understood my statement correctly?
Well then it might be that you haven't seen the prices for other all-in-one.

Those things are mostly horrible and cost a lot 😀

So there you go: iMacs cost a lot, but they're not overpriced all-in-one computers. Their price is good compared to other all-in-one computers with similar hardware.

I was pointing out the fact that all-in-ones, including Apple ones, are overpriced. I was pointing at Apple because they always seem to be present in market segments where stuff are overpriced. Ultrabooks and AIO PCs are very good examples. Why do you think I was comparing the prices to laptops? So we can have a rough idea of what the hardware would be worth. You need to pay more attention.

Very rough, that's for sure. Your expectations are very unrealistic.

I'm comparing similar hardware to figure out the price and I've unrealistic expectations 😀? Technically, AIO PCs are laptops with big screens. Or you actually believe that just because it has the AIO tag in it something's different?

Well then... go ahead and compare them and you'll see that they're not as overpriced as you think they are.

My laptop: i7-4710HQ, 16GB RAM, GTX 860M and 256GB SSD. ~1000EUR. 15.6" 1080p IPS panel. The model is ASUS G551JM. A 4k screen is 500 EUR. 1500 EUR for my laptop + 4k screen. 2000 EUR for the iMac. 2000 EUR for the Lenovo IdeaCentre A740. 2800 EUR for the DELL XPS One 27. It has far better specs than the entry iMac, but the screen is merely 1440p. That is not overpriced? The Lenovo is the closest to being decent considering it's only 2k and includes a touchscreen but the iMac?

May I remind you that it's a 5K screen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5K_resolution It doesn't cost 500 €.
It's also probably a factory calibrated IPS and not the **** the Windows OEM's put in their laptops/AIO. Especially ASUS, the last few ASUS Gxx 4K screens I've seen have been horrible. That being said I think the UX305 3K (3200x1800 whatever that's called) one was decent. Dunno. You also have to factor in you're kind of paying for the Apple ecosystem + OS which some people prefer. I don't think iMac is that overpriced. If it is it's not significant enough to be worth mentioning and could easily be attributed to aesthetic preference + the OS.

You're paying for the parts used, the materials used, and support from Apple.

Which I addressed in a previous post, saying that there are few 5k screens on the market and they're capitalizing on this by asking absurd amounts of money. DELL is doing the same thing. Maybe it looks like Apple is doing the 'right thing' since before this iMac launched, the DELL 5k screens were around 2500EUR. But it's never going to be as cheap as it can be, because we're talking about Apple. Worth it? The screen, no. The fact that it's Apple, maybe. Great customer support and an ecosystem which you might like. Personally, it's not for me.

From the start you've made it pretty clear that it's not for you. We're just arguing about the fact that not all Apple stuff is overly over-priced as some might think.

Yeah but most of the stuff is. And where it isn't, the whole market segment is overpriced. Like I said earlier, ultrabooks and AIOs are good examples of this.
