That 15 billion transistor count is insane when you think how little AMD's 5000 series has. Makes me wonder about any upcoming 5nm processors coming from the next gen Zens.

Fortunately I don't play games on my phone, so I don't need a super powerful, and super expensive, phone. In fact I'd love a smartphone that's not a bloody phablet, but smartphones well under six inches are nearly extinct. Not that I'd pay the premium for an Apple, but I have heard rumours Apple is also scrapping the smaller models.

I don't think the two can be compared. x86 processors are completely different than ARM. But yes, Apple has a very big competitive and performance advantage compared to their competitors, to the point that I am considering switching to the new model, if the battery tests will be to my liking.

It's funny, every time I mention this people just say "hurr durr must have small hands". I really don't get why you'd want a phone with a screen over 6". It's not even comfortable to pocket. It looks like the Sony Xperias are pretty much the last thing left now that the Pixel 6 is supposed to start at 6.2-6.3". Why do people hate being able to one hand a phone so much?

oh jesus. Yes is a product is not a phone DIY kit. They sell products that do certain things in a way and do not do other things. There are no empty phone boards in which you can install android that are not tied to some manufacturer producing the missing closed pieces for you

Some of my pants make fitting my Huawei P8 lite 2017 uncomfortable, imagine these new phones... My next phone will be over 6'' cuz I can't find nothing bellow anymore 🙁

A month ago when I was talking with a salesman from my mobile operator, the man almost laughed at my hope that perhaps next year there would be a smaller smartphone available in the market. I haven't replaced my old phone precisely because there's nothing available. I have heard "experts" say that there are no small phones because people don't buy them. I can't help but think people didn't buy them because operators and other stores didn't advertise them or include them in any deals. After all, it's not difficult to find lots of people missing smaller smartphones by googling.

I agree and i prefer to use the phone with one hand most of the time. Ive got the P30 Lite and its 6.15" and getting all the way up to the status bar is a bit tricky. But i like the feature that if i slide from left to right on the bottom nav-keys the screen goes to a smaller mode

Any advance is good. However, the direction (not raw performance) can be a two edged sword. Going to the latest, fastest, greatest makes us forget some details on the way, but who are to decide what we want? Steve Jobs said that it's rather difficult to find out what people want, it's best to just give them one device and they will learn their way around. Whatever what way it is.

Cell phones are so incredibly boring to me...;) Wonder if Apple will make the same mistake it always makes in marketing by advertising the "fastest CPUs in the world" that actually are not the fastest CPUs in the world by a country mile...? Like with the M1. Surprising to see Intel copying Apple's approach in the M1 manner, though--evidently, Intel FABs are still years away from being able to manufacture chiplet CPUs. AMD really leapfrogged Intel with Ryzen/EPYC, apparently. AMD's Zen 4 looks to be far more interesting than AL, imo.

They said fastest CPU core not CPU. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16252/mac-mini-apple-m1-tested/4 Thing is using 8w of power vs AMD's 5950x that's up at 50w and it beats it in the vast majority of benchmarks lol. In multithreaded workloads it loses, but again, CPU core not CPU.

Yeah I kind of agree. I was hoping Pixel 6 would have telephoto but they stuck it on the Pro model only. I have an S21 Ultra currently and it's just too big. I hate it. I want a 5" phone again - maybe ill get one of these foldable things.

That's exactly the problem. There's no point to a nice piece of hardware if you basically can't use it as you want.

I use my phone to watch video content all the time, the bigger, the better, since carrying around a larger phone makes no difference to me. Also, for ease of use it makes no difference, I have small hands so most phones are 2 handed for me.

I sure as hell dont wont andriod or hell windows on mobile device. altest apple closed off OS is less riddled with malware and virus then andriod and windows. and as result safer for most people, seeing most are to stupid know how most this stuff works let alone care to mess with or modify the os. Advance in mobile will surrely trickely to the desktop sector in some way where you modify and hack your windows os to your hearts content. If iOS was open like window and andriod I would not be using any mobile device. or even have "smart" phone. people like say there closed nature of OS is bad, but has benefit, most ignore which is it less riddled with malware and virus and targeted less then other windows an android cause it closed. which GOOD for the masses, not talking there questionable privacy or there data they collecting. as for the chip i was excited to see it the new ipad, seeing i thinking of trading my 2018ipad for new one but it not not the A15 chip or even the M1 chip. we need newer battery tech though battery get to hot and dont last long enough anymore. the obsession with "bigger" phones is getting old though. i find the 4" iphone i have to be to big, let alone fit in my pocket comfortably

My phone history; Htc one m8 Lg v20 S9+ Razer 2 512gb 12 pro max. I have always been content with android phones, but now that top phones no longer have front facing speakers, replaceable battery, headphone jack, microsd, or price advantage, I swapped to fruity phone this gen. I was going to get Sony 3 but US delivery date and 5G support was guesswork and hoping. So now that most vocal apple cult types moved onto politics, I tried a fruity phone. pro: 12 pro max is fast, smooth, and battery life, even when playing games, is incredible. Pictures and video are excellent quality and easy to take. Password and mail apps are 9/10. Safari is good but I still prefer brave. Bound is as good a substitute for smart audiobook player as can be done under IOS. magnet charger is awesome! cons: Spacebar slide doesn’t jump between letters. Mess up a a single letter, redo the whole word. This comes up often. Apples no folder access is constant frustration and confusion for anyone who relies on that basic level of control and organization. If you have your own video and audio files, apple is a nightmare/pita. Using iTunes to import was a huge and broken pita. Backup is buggy piece of crap to just backup your contacts and passwords. It is constantly trying to SILENTLY grab unrelated files and then saying it can’t backup because there is not space. When you try to transfer your pictures and video off the phone to my home NAS, where I collect all my family movies: 1. super slow because, with what seems like a single threaded app, it is silently reencoding all your files. This can be disabled once you track down what’s happening. 2. You get 2-3 versions of each file raw, compressed, and one something else I don’t recall. Disabling this will save a lot of space and battery since your phone won’t be reencoding every 4K picture and video you take. 3. Even after transferring them off, lots of those pictures and videos are still clogging up your phone storage, iTunes, and iCloud. The sheer amount of bull crap in playing one video file in VLC and copying a 10 second funny home video to home storage is incredibly tedious frought with apple silently fighting you for control and pretending folders don’t exist at every turn. I don’t understand how, but the silent button on the side is constantly being flipped on while in my pocket. Several times a day my alarm and notifications go silent until I think to check the silent switch with ocd like frequency. (Yes I’m using the apple leather case so it’s not a off brand case causing the issue.) 6/10 last apple ymmv. Just thought I’d write the review I wish I had found before I had was invested.

i'm laughing so hard right now... i have to have a larger phone because i have big hands. i also buy clothes that have cell phone pockets so i don't need to worry about my pants... but my gosh so many of the pc master race are Luddites when it comes to cell phones. and btw, Apple has zero plans to get rid of the iPhone mini. you just have to choose between tiny hands with tight pants 🙂p) or going ahead holding your nose and buying the only phone that's taken your size concerns to heart - the mini. Apple is going to continue with the mini as it's the most viable way of getting an iPhone into the the pockets of kids (esp. if their parents have them on a plan) because this will be the most common model "given away" as incentives.

LMAO so Apple is actively duplicating files so that you run out of space, encouraging people to buy IP with bigger memory, kinda scumbag move. I had iPad4 briefly years ago and would never touch Apple again because of the iTune and Apple lockdowned eco-system.
