It's a quad slot card, although the card itself is technically passive, that's only because the front case fans are designed to line up with the heatsink when it's plugged in, so it effectively uses a 120mm? front case fan.

Is this really sufficient? I mean it's aimed at a pro, work level... loud fans aren't a good thing there either I suppose. I just can't see how this thing is cooled easily when half of the hardware already is cooled by a three slot cooler. But I guess I lack the imagination for this.

AMD had double cards in the past, like R9 295x2, which is very similar to this. So maybe you are right, but I think having the two chips on same pcb was just better solution than two discrete cards.

Amazing to think that within 5yrs this kind of performance on PC could be standard gaming hardware. 56Tflops lol. RT/RTX will likely be an accepted "standard" graphics setting in games, if not on by default.

I had a HD6990 which was 2 x 6970's on one PCB. The older versions had a PCIe bridge chip built on the PCB between the two chips so effectively to the system it was still 2 cards in crossfire and worked in exactly the same way. This seems to be a bit more advanced as the chips can talk to each other as a single device. Oh, the old HD6990 also got insanely hot. The fan was like a hairdryier, Hottest card i've ever seen (I once ad it running at 115c) Would certainly be interesting to see if it works as a Crossfire setup.

Did you see how overbuilt this card this? https://www.guru3d.com/index.php?ct=news&action=file&id=32507 The HBM memory stacks for sure aren't cheap, the VRM on that is gigantic! And this is a prosumer card, not a consumer card. Pro level cards are miles above pricing of consumer cards.

yes indeed. this is the actual news. AMD has been doing ES of infinity fabric connected multi-gpu's for years now. the biggest obstacle has been latency, which this looks to have in control. however, this is still using the pcie lane as well in a crossfired configuration. but this is well beyond "proof of concept". i'm very eager now for Arcturus, which will be a full "chiplet" iteration without the need for crossfire or a second gpu, as all functions will reside on one gpu.

For a bit of extra modularity, you can even add wheels to the machine, allowing you to push the Mac Pro around your studio. The wheels, however, will be sold separately and their price is unknown.....My guess the wheels cost $599....:D
