Nice. Hopefully I will get the KitKat update on my Sony Xperia Z Ultra...

Wonder if this will become available for my Galaxy S3? Samsung are a bit rubbish with keeping things up to date, they still haven't got an official 4.3 yet...

Android can run comfortably on the 512MB of RAM devices that are popular in much of the world, bringing the latest goodies in Android 4.4 within reach for the next billion smartphone users.
That'll be good. Lots of older stuff, like what I have, that has little ram.

Which is great in theory, as long as you don't need any of the features that you lose when running a custom rom, such as mhl.

most custom rom are great hopefully, and you loose nothing or so few.

i tried the official 4.3 for s3, so many blotware by Samsung making the s3 slow. custom roms ftw

Custom ROMs are the way for older devices, my first gen ASUS Transformer has a 4.3.1 ROM available, and the dev from XDA is busy on porting 4.4 I'm running 4.2.2 on it atm

If you are rooted you can freeze/disable the unwanted applications with Titanium Backup and similar apps. That's what I do.
Yeah, but they're still taking up space. Better to just wipe them out using ROMCleaner or use a custom ROM that offers them as options rather than defaults.

I'm glad they had the sense to give us a full screen mode at last (bye bye pie) now I'll be checking XDA daily for the Nexus 7 update

I've already got a few of the 4.4 apps sideloaded on my S4, so far it's running nice. I gotta say I love the Google Now and Hangouts integration in Android. No source kit kat builds yet for my S4 though...Until then I'm running Paranoid on my phone.

It'll still be a few weeks before KitKat officially launches for most of us (that will actually get it) as Google wants the Nexus 5 to be the first device running KitKat.

According to Google, the Galaxy Nexus wont be getting the 4.4 update as it's passed the 18 month patch life cycle.

The source code is out already for Kitkat. If Samsung or Htc wanted to(or could lol) they could put out Kitkat builds at any time.

I guess Google is really sticking with this then...The Galaxy Nexus is more than a dependable device though!

18 months is longer than Samsung supports the majority of their phones.... Nothing gets supported forever....

I'm sure if Samsung really cared, they could probably find a way to update the Galaxy Nexus themselves....

The Galaxy Nexus will get 4.4 the same way it did with 4.3 But you can hardly blame Google or Samsung. I'm sure with TI being out of the mobile business had something to do with it.

Even though I am probably going to buy a Nexus 5... Google I am disappoint. I'm sure there'll be a Cyanogen ROM for the Galaxy Nexus, but there are too many pleb Galaxy Nexus owners for Google to be doing this. What a letdown.

Same way as 4.3? Seems like I wasn't paying attention back then, I just waited for a Cyanogen ROM. Which reminds me, what's this about them selling out?

I am disappoint as well. I'm waiting for the N5 32GB to be available near me (might go to Germany for that) and was expecting the Gnex to get 4.4. Custom ROM's are nice, but they are full with bugs atm. I would rather await further ROM development before slamming that 4.4 on my device. And TI going out of the SoC business is bull, since 4.3 was just released a few months ago and the Gnex also got that update. Also at the point of getting 4.3 it already was past the 18 month period. :bang: Getting a fine ROM can be tricky. I've tried many on my old HTC Desire. Some of them were kind enough to be filled with ads and random popups (creators whining that time costs money. Don't start with ROM's then). I'd like have a ROM as stock as possible. Now this is a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507846 Although that modder is a bit weird since the ROM development already seems dead. The creator has said that he does not have time anymore to update the ROM or further developing it.

4.3 was OTA for me. The same wont be happening with 4.4 unless Google changes it policy. Only way I will be able to get the Kitkat update would be to flash my phone, which I don't really want to do.
