Competition is good and I'd rather have an alternative to the intel WiFi modules I've been buying for years, but only if this performs well. Review likely?

Mediatek should stick to producing xbox dongles, they aren't a great wifi producer otherwise.

Has mediatek began providing source code for their drivers on linux/android? If not...well meh

Mediatek are big in mobile chipsets. I dont like them because they are closed source and dont allow custom firmware.

As far they do not try to push marvel 😛

Hope something good will came up from this collaboration. Not a fan of Mediatek because, as @alanm already said, they were always closed source. Also Mediatek aquired Ralink some 10ish years ago and me personally have way too many bad experiences with Ralink WiFi chips.

this is a marriage of necessity.
Intel's modem pricing and availability have been in question for over a year now.
what this does is effectively open the (pc) market for Mediatek while assuring supply to AMD.
Mediatek is using a more advanced production node than Intel for its WiFi6/6e modems which should also equate to a (small but measurable) power savings in laptops while lowering the cost.

as a connoisseur of laptops (since they were "a thing") i've had modems from Intel and Rivet (killer) over the years.
the worst one i ever had was a Killer (wifi ac) in my MSI. my current ROG laptop has Intel, but it's no great shakes.
if Mediatek passed AMD's muster it couldn't possibly be as bad as the Killer.

Good. Intels are overpriced new. A solid option for upgrade on my B450 ITX has been kinda a pita since its an intel A/C that is only 433mbs.
