Hmm the 3955WX has an awful low boost clock for being 280W. I bet that thing will be an OC beast and with 8 channel memory I'd wager a guess that it will be the gaming king too.

OC beast ? if you use LN2 I guess, current threadripper go from 280 to 440+watts for like +100Mhz too many cores for OC 39xx threadripper were bad at gaming (lots of stuttering and fps drop) so those will definitely be too, I was expecting a 5900X series not a more pro plateform :/ ex 3960x owner here

That 8-channel ram ought to pretty much do away with the need to overclock system ram, imo. Some of these things will hold 2 TBs of ram in a single-socket config! The performance must be unreal. Also--with 64 cores/128t--if you have the software that will make use of those threads then CPU overclocking seems entirely superfluous...as you'll murder everything else on the market. Lenovo has an interesting offer featured on AnandTech right now, if you're interested.

Still using Zen 2... That sucks.. I wanted to get the new 32 core however on Zen 3. I assume they will come out next year then or they skip Zen 3 for Zen 4 with their threadrippers.

Well, it is not like those CPUs eat 280W under single threaded workload. More like 20W per core at boost clock. So 280W part of argument where you expect higher ST clock is kind of funny. What you get on 16C/32T part for same 280W limit as higher core count parts is higher MT clock. If I would complain, it would be actually about 280W while running 16C/32T at 3.9GHz. Big part is likely I/O die for 8ch memory + so many PCIe lanes. (I/O die is what matters a lot. Here we have Zen2 enabled to use PCIe 4.0 thanks to it. When Zen4 comes, AMD can use I/O dies compatible with AM4 socket just in case AM5 boards/DDR5 are not ready.) Because when I did undervolt my 12C/24T, it ate around 65W when all cores run at 4GHz F@H. 32C/64T having all core clock 3.5GHz at 280W seems much more reasonable.

I'm not sure where my comments fits for you or if it's relevant in anyway but a few numbers for fun while I wait for a download 😉 the power you mention : 280/32 8.75W/core my 3960x 4.3Ghz@1.28v : 207W on aida 64 stress test 8.625W/core (76°C) my 9900k 5.0Ghz@1.28v : 179W aida64 stress test 22W/core (77°C) my 9900k 5.1Ghz@1.36v : 207W aida64 stress test 26W/core (86°C) threadripper has roughly 2.8x higher productivity scores than the intel @5.1Ghz power and temperature wise you see the insane gap between the two technologies same or -10°C temp for 3x the cores (5.1 is too much for my cpu but the 5.0 aren't stable anymore at 1.28v so no point losing 100Mhz to use almost same volts) I really want to see a 4th gen Ryzen threadripper 😱

I am usually more interested in knowing how power draw changes with voltage and clock increments. (Since I am not fan of last mile OC.) I am sure that 9900K could have reasonable power draw at around 4.6GHz. But that 3960X, you got there, is very nice. Clock for that voltage seems good. Did you test each chiplet separately to find clock it can reach at that voltage? My 3900X has better and worse chiplet. Both require bit higher voltage and 2nd clocks 125MHz less than 1st. But for max performance in day to day, I use PBO 1 Amp bug. For productivity, 4GHz, low power draw and quiet PC.
