I believed 110W will allow AMD to remove PEG connector altogether (as clearly they have found a performance boost by underpowering cards). ... ..... Ok, that was trolling. The issue is I can't say anything good about these cards. Except for the price, everything else is awful.

First leak was reporting performance between 280X and 290 for a RX470. Considering its a under 150$ card thats not bad at all. At that price range, nvidia has to offer a gtx950 2gb which is not even close.

I don't see anything "awful" about the 470. For 1080p gaming it should be great. It would certainly be a huge upgrade over my 270X and at $149 I just may get one. I'll wait for what Sapphire comes up with in a non-reference model though. Actually I'll look at Sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte, and Asus and decide which one I like the best. The 460 I wouldn't consider.

Well, they'll all perform better than the 680 we have, at 1/3rd the price. So there's that.

not at all... it will be 1050. you have to compare from the same gen. comparing gen to gen is usefull to have an idea of evolution only. 🙂 (even more true now that actual middle class GPU explode the bench of previous gen high end GPU for less than half of the price).

Your whole reasoning is based on MSRP made by AMD. How many 199$ 480 cards are being sold out there? They are ~290 euros in my country. That's a lot more than 199$. A lot more. I expect this 470 150$ to be at least 200 euros, if not even 220. I can buy r290 for that money. Hell, even r290X by the time they launch 470.

A single 6pin should be more than enough for the 470. It looks like a very nicely balanced card. 4GB, but with just 15% less shaders than the 480. If it manages to hover around $140-$150, it's more or less another lower segment win for AMD. The lower cards sound perferct for HTPC use. It seems that when it's low-clocked Polaris is very very energy efficient actually. Performance wise it should be around a 290, probably faster in NVIDIA-favored games, and even faster at DX12 games. Sounds quite sweet.

RX470 for £150 and its capable of "brilliant HD gaming" this is going to be a very popular card indeed especially in the Chinese markets. With specs like those I suspect it will rival GTX960/970

The 960 and the 970 are not the same things 🤓 It will be around the 290 in DX11 games, and probably faster than the 970 in DX12.

yes, there were some 4gb on newegg for 199$, they lasted 10 minutes. I don't know where your neighbor found one for 229 eur, but my friend in Germany picked one up for 279 eur. Yes, 8GB version, there are no 4GB version on stock almost anywhere. Also, in US, you are required to report purchase and pay tax. Most US countries don't tax you at purchase. So even if it was 199$, after tax it would be more.

Here in SA the 480 8GB, the 4GB is nowhere to be seen, ranges from R4800 320$ to R6000 400$. The shops are really taking the p1ss out of people. The cheapest 1070 is ~R9000 that's 600$ Shops should be restricted on price if you ask me.

Or if you turn settings down from ultra to very high! But then there will be games like doom coming out also that will work 60+ in the coming years with something like 470.

Despite beliefs to the contrary, game requirements haven't gone up since the transition to the XboxOne/PS4. And neither will they even after NEO/Scorpio.

Seems like the RX 470 is able to run off of a single 6 pin power connector unlike the RX480.
