Bah, just buy Threadripper Zen1 or Zen+. They are lowering prices. Not like someone gonna need high IPS with that workload. AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X (16 cores) is for $680 on amazon.com Yeah, I get it, gotta have latest tech.

Very Happy with my Ryzen 2700x I just got for $180. More than enough for what I need.

Seems to me the 1920X is the best value at the moment, at $200. That's $16 per core. That's amazing for a HEDT CPU. I imagine the price might drop further for Black Friday.

I agree - it kinda sucks if you are in a rush or need to get a new system, but something like a 2700X is nothing to complain about, especially for that price. For someone like you, it's better to just wait out the rush until AMD can catch up with the demand.

one thing that many user considering/that holding back buying threadripper2 is that the chipset sTR4 is like "dead" not saying TRX4 will last long either, as there nothing they say it will support threadripper4 but they mention "TRX4 sets us nicely for future development and scalability of the Threadripper platform, both on a near- and long-term basis." so i personally expecting it will last longer than TR4
