HH, great review. I love the 720p resolution to measure engine limitations but I think this is the best bang for the buck processor right now! Its within blinking distance to the mighty 8700K at 1080p + resolutions with a good GPU and a good deal cheaper. Can almost get a 1080Ti with the savings which is a win win!

Maybe this is the better deal, already has enough cores, threads and new chipset for a decent price, will keep my eyes peeled.

For someone who's upgrading just CPU on X370, that's good price point. If new system is in question, then 2700X benefit is 30% up, yet price bump between 2600X vs. 2700X is tiny.

I'm not denying the benefits or improvements over the 1st generation, but my 7600K 5GHz is still kicking and I'm not in a hurry, but it would be sweet to get a few extra threads for my daily tasks and workloads, but I won't buy one (as previously mentioned) until the prices has dropped (call it "cheap" or "greedy") but the high taxes in my country makes everything more expensive than they really are.

What's your definition of bad? Anyway, if you're going to upgrade, I'd say get a Ryzen 7. The 2600X ought to OC just fine on your board, but the performance difference isn't significant enough IMO. Unless you intend to upgrade your RAM, to my understanding, there's not really any significant advantage of the 400 series vs 300 series for overclockers.

All i need is for prices to come down a tad more on DDR and ill be pulling the trigger on one of these or a 2600 depending on that review. This one seems to be a nice bump up from the 1600x in most benchmarks and equalled or bested the i5-8600k in most departments apart from gaming, interestingly it performed quite poorly in the Chrome - Mozilla Kraken test though. Also, on the conclusion page it reads 'It's not massive and as extensive as what the 2700X is to the 2700X' 🙂

I can’t get 3.8 out of it(anymore) I with blew it out when I updated my bios to the 1.0.0.1 AGESA (terrible terrible bios) or I did something to it somehow but it’s been awful ever since I rollled back. Also it’s never tan my CL16 3200 G.Skill past 2933 reliably. So I was hoping the stronger IMC and a better top end would do the trick.

I wouldn't say 3.8 is "really bad", but rather the minimum expectation of a Ryzen overclock. BIOS updates have been somewhat hit or miss with me. My board has had around 3 since AGESA 1.0.0.6, one of which gave me pretty decent results. The latest update (for Zen+) isn't faring so well. I'm thinking of reverting back so I can get better stability. I don't plan on getting Zen+ so it's not like I'm going to benefit from the changes anyway.

It’s bad now though I had it stable at 3.925 before I was dumb enough to update in the BIOS in January. I mean the 6 core XFR is 3.7 so 3.8 feels a bit silly.

I too did downgrade from Ivy BIOS to latest Sandy. With Ivy BIOS, system would not even boot if I set 1866MHz for memory no matter what timings/voltage I would use. With latest Sandy BIOS, 1866MHz memory boots, but has errors time to time. So, at least it allows tighter timings on 1600MHz.

For me the 6 core 12 thread would be the logical step on a new build. The 2600X Showed the way.
