I am looking forward to seeing the 4K performance. If there really are 128 ROPs in there, this thing can be a killer.

There aren't. Only 64.

Understandable. Volume will not be sufficient to allow large range of custom designs. Would be waste of effort.

Though I was not at all impressed when I saw the announcement, I would consider buying the card as I have a 144Hz widescreen monitor with Freesync and I kind of dislike nVidia's ways. But only if: I can find a compatible water block The benchmarks are really good The card is actually available when I manage to actually have the money, as it seems that not many cards will be produced. The price is 620€ max. (699$ is about 612€, but that is rarely the street price. For example, nVidia said their RTX 2060 has an MSRP of 350$, but stores in Greece sell them for 500€+ which is crazy, considering you can actually get an RTX 2070 for 550€ if you're lucky)

So this is like Titan, reference only.

Only 5000 cards though......

5000 units made and just as a "oh hey we exist too" thing is kind of a miff. They're apparently selling them at a loss just to be in the sector.

No, that's what the RX 590 was. The Radeon 7s are sold because they're binned Firepros and don't know what else to do with them (which would explain the price point and weird memory size). It doesn't make sense why AMD would make these parts for any other reason. As I've said before - these GPUs are just placeholders for Navi. We're all probably going to forget these exist 2 years from now.

This card is meant to lower sales of the Quadro RTX5000($2,300), and the RTX Titan($2,500), that's why Jensen Huang was so pissed of when they asked him about the VEGA 2($700). The value of the VEGA 2 is so much better for the users who need these kind of cards (content creators, compositers, etc...). It's a content card in a gamers disguise...

Radeon VII does not fp64 among other things. It's a poor choice for professional use. Live with it.

Lame move. No custom cooler, no fun...

Another PR paper release. I wonder if they even actually plan to make these in any kind of decent volume...

Probably not. It will sell out until Navi replace it.

Same counts for Quadro RTX5000 and RTX Titan and I would have no problem living with that.

FP64 is really only useful in some professional workloads. I think people here typically overstate it's importance. Prosumers doing content editing with photos/video/etc are still going to find that 16GB of HBM pretty nice.

Oh well I guess 5000 units covers the AMD fanatics.

It seems pretty clear that 5000 is only for the initial release. More will come, sooner or later.

None of this is surprising.

At least the cooler is a bit nicer than your average reference cooler.
Looks similiar to that HD 7990 multi gpu beast. It had the same 3 fan design.
