Brace yourself , rebrandeon is coming

AMD should have done itself a service and make it either a new Polaris chip with more shaders and ROPs plus faster memory, or a Vega variation of some kind with DDR5(X).

if this is just a re-brand ... this comes to mind :P [youtube=QuRUIeD6Zr0] if they made a vega gddr5 replacement for rx 500 series or even just a node shrink would not be so bad no ?

Yeah, they Really Need to step up their game, their performance is feeling rather lackluster in many areas growing in importance. Stuff like : 4K+ VR / AR Virtual Super Resolution 1440p higher refresh screens Possibly 1080p high refresh too even in some games ? 120Hz 4K screens are coming / already here? even. I know AMD are hitting the value segments pretty well which is where their financial focus has been aimed mostly at these last few years, but it is starting to feel like they are slipping a tad too far from what is actually needed in more and more people's eyes these days. The temptation of the GreenForce has been getting stronger, only GPP has pulled me back from that darker path lol

Maybe they're moving current production to a smaller node? It would make sense as the cards are still fine for 1080p gaming and the node shrink would make production cheaper and give scope to reduce power / increase performance.

They don't have the engineering man-power to work on multiple chips. This will likely just be another re-spin or refined 12nm Polaris 10 with higher clocks and maybe GDDR5X/6 memory.

the 480/580 were a great deal at msrp if this is going to be the new 9800gtx its not all that bad the gtx+ gave us 2.7-4.7% better performance., its all going to be what they really sell for to see what the real deal is

If gtx 2060 is on the way for 2018, I bet it will be hard for any RX 5XX(X) to survive battle. We shall wait, I play at 2560x1080 so any GPU beyond 499$ is trash money for my monitor.

If it bring GPUs to the market for gaming, who cares if it is a "rebrand". Let's see. Nothing wrong with a 580 with 5% more performance. It's a good gaming card.

It is wrong if prices won't drop. You can't pay a Vega MSRP levels for the weaker Polaris.

Yeah prices are crazy. Hopefully they will drop soon.

Any progress, however small, is well received. All that's left is for the price of the gpus to return to normal.

Well, depends on how small are we talking about, it is all about marketing and sales after all. Since 200 series, all AMDs gpus are in the same range and about the same performance wise. 290(x)<=390(x)<=480<=580 etc.

I'm so glad that I brought 1060 for 250$ last year, right before the price hikes

At least this time they aren't calling it 600 series

I really hope they add something to these cards as someone else said if it where 12nm with maybe 1-200mhz increase then i think people will look the other way in terms of the re-brand x3 now.
