Bargain Basement Tastic!

So......who is this for? Slower and hotter than 2 fury X cards but more expensive, not enough vram for 4k gaming. Can't believe I've had so much win out of these 980tis for £1150.

Do dual GPU cards follow the same rules as sli/xfire? Cos given that the number of games that don't even support it has risen by like (N)100% in the last year this seems like an even worse purchase.

maybe its aimed at bitcoin farms, imagine 7-8 of these in a single board efficiently water cooled yea I know right, like I'm trying too hard to find a meaning for this

Afair bitcoin mining doesn't even use GPUs anymore, there's dedicated ASIC miners that like, plug into USB or something or crazy things like this http://bitcoinrigs.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/antminer-s1-C.jpeg?189db0

Yep, the exact same rules apply. The only difference is that the scaling is usually slightly better, being on one PCB and all that. What I wonder is why they've never tried 'sticking' those 2 batches of VRAM into one bigger pool shared between the GPUs. It could be possible. Scheduling the access could prove to be a pain though, but this might work with HBM considering the greater memory bandwidth. Although it's not that 'greater' in HBM1.

Good point, but for that you're faaar better off waiting for the next gen of cards. I mean Pascal seems to be a compute monster from what we've heard so far, and I wouldn't be surprised Polaris being even better at it.

I don't understand why this is so expensive, and I don't understand why this isn't a FirePro. If just one of those 2 things were corrected, this product would make sense. But according to AMD: http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/radeon-pro-duo I can only narrow down my confusion to the price. Basically, it seems to be a GPU for game developers, particularly for VR. I don't really understand why game devs wouldn't just crossfire cheaper GPUs though.

This gpu is too late and too expensive to make any sense but I must say this thing is probably a beast even if it only has 4gb

it will beat the **** out of everything just like the 295x did. In 4K also.

This card will drop in price when big Pascal GPU's arrive, same as 295X did. It will compete until we see big Vega chip later this year.

This dual card is Not for plebes or console peasants. :grin2: "AMD's Radeon™ Pro Duo with its LiquidVR™ SDK is a platform aimed at most all aspects of VR content creation: from entertainment to education, journalism, medicine and cinema. With an astonishing 16 teraflops of compute performance, AMD offers a complete solution aimed at all aspects of the VR developer lifestyle: developing content more rapidly for tomorrow's killer VR experiences while at work, and playing the latest DirectX® 12 experiences at maximum fidelity while off work." Like R9 295X its not for everyone.

I think it will have a very short market life. Even those who can afford to buy it may refrain from doing so out of fear of embarrassment... of appearing as clueless in what to do with their money when there are clearly better existing alternatives let alone whats in the pipeline.

You could say the same about Mercedes, but if that were true they'd be out of business by now.

Totally agree with what you said , too late to the party and only 4GB is the achilles ' heel of this beast. nonetheless very powerfull.

Looks ugly to me to be honest. It looks like a damn brick.
