Having a retail HD8970 and oem HD8970 with different specs would cause market confusion. I doubt AMD would be so ignorant....

I just want some clarification on AMD's next GPU..they're really holding their cards to their chest here. First he rumor of Volcanic Islands coming and Sea Islands cancelled now this.

Apart from the price and expected speed, these figures are the same as what I saw well over 6 months ago. Maybe those early leaked figures were correct, or maybe this is just a rehash of those earlier rumours.

Very confusing rumors.
I think 9970hd-rumor is with bigger grain of salt.:p

Indeed the 9970 has been shot down though as semiaccurate cleared it up.

Rumours on the front page, if it had been Hilbert posting it then i'd have sat up and payed attention.

Blackops_2
Looked and didn't see a thread about it so assumed it hadn't been posted yet. I'm asking him to delete this one so there is no splitting of discussion regardless.

Until AMD makes an official announcement...everything should be taken with a helping of salt...

'... with a grain of salt' π
What kind of salt are we talking about here? Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, any product of an acid and a base... π
When you say 'salt', people just assume it is another term for Sodium Chloride, this simply isn't the case. Besides, salt should be taken in moderation, just like unquantified rumours.

More like a bucketful :P

Nitrites and Nitrates are better sodium based poisons.

thatguy91
True, but things like mettwurst, salami etc taste good π
Ammonium Nitrate, I won't go there.

AMD have already said at the start of 2013 that they will hold on to the 7xxx series for 2013.

thatguy91
True, but things change. It might be as simple as bringing forward a January 2014 release to November 2013 (I'm speaking hypothetically). It all depends on market pressures, and whether they, and manufacturers, have the GPU's ready in time. It will probably be a staggered release as it has been in the past, where the x8xx or x9xx cards are released first, followed later by the remaining cards.

Yxskaft
It also makes sense for both AMD and Nvidia to not speak about their future products months before their release, since there's a risk their current sales will decline
I want the good old days of HD 4000 vs GT200 price wars!

βThe next generation of graphics cards is coming this year and shaping up nicely."
While they said that, they've also stated something is coming 2013 it's just unclear as to what it is yet.
