I would really like to know how much money are AMD getting from selling a video card bundled with all these games. They must be really desperate. They are getting close to nothing for Xbox&PS4 chips, their CPUs get small margins and they sure are investing a lot to beat Nvidia. Hope they know what they are doing. Not that I would be a fan, but losing the only proper competitor to Intel & Nvidia would hurt us consumers a lot..

Yes, a couple billion dollars is close to nothing. lol Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, and Total War: Rome 2 sounds like a killer game bundle, but isn't Rome 2 with intel? And isn't Splinter Cell: Blacklist in the Nvidia bundle lol?

In which universe are they getting a "couple of billion dollars" for the console chips? Nvidia made a mere $500 million profit off 50 million PS3's sold over seven years, and that's with likely even higher margins than the latest generation. It's why Nvidia had little interest in powering the Xbox One or PS4. For comparison purposes, it made more than $500 million profit in the last four quarters alone. For further comparison, Nvidia got $129 for it's chip inside the PS3 (just GPU, and not net profits), AMD is only expected to get (according to financial experts) between $60-$90 for the entire chip (including CPU, GPU, etc) in the Xbox One and PS4. If anyone is curious, the CELL CPU costed Sony $89.

Thanx for the support buddy, DarkKnightDude is obviously misinformed or has no idea what he is talking about.. From what I have been reading AMD are gonna get something like 10 bucks per chip (talking about income). That just shows how desperate they are. Hope it helps them to rebuild their name at least..

AMD giving us awesome deals as usual, yet people still make snippy comments. As usual.

Nvidia rerelease the 670 and 680 as 760 and 770 with lower prices to compete with the AMD cards at their price points. That surely is not desperation right? People who have nothing important to say, refrain from saying anything.

The 760 and the 670 are not the same the 760 has two SMX clusters disabled the 670 only has one and the 760 is reference clocked higher the 760 is basically a 660 with a 256 bit memory bus and a higher clock.

I probably should have added in "revenue". Which roughly means a couple hundred million in profit per quarter. Better then nothing. "It's why Nvidia had little interest in powering the Xbox One or PS4." Its rather bizarre for them to say that after all that engineering effort into the Shield, which won't make anything compared with either console. They're just saying that to make themselves feel better about it. Nvidia was never a contender because they could not make a x86-based System on a chip. Also like you say the low profit margins, but that's contradictory. Anyways, I'm off topic, we're discussing the AMD Never Settle bundle I believe. I doubt Blacklist will get added.

Yes they are not the same but the 760 is almost a direct replacement to the 670 and not the 660Ti, based on performance.

How can it be replacement if it's slower than GTX670?
data/avatar/default/avatar12.webp
It's barely any slower. But it's quite faster than the 660Ti.

This posts reeks of fanboyism and ignorance. Well done.

I try very hard, thank you. While you're at it, feel free to offer up facts to the contrary. Just to help you, the GPU (AMD) in the Xbox 360 costed Microsoft $140 alone, with the CPU costing them $105. Once again, the entire SOC in the Xbox One and PS4 is expected to cost between $60-90 according to financial analysts.

^The only thing is there really is no R&D involved this time for AMD. GCN and Jaguar are already developed for the mobile and desktop market they just modified it slightly not a lot of overhead.

After reading this post, I took a magnifying glass to re-read Chillin's post, thinking I must have missed something. After carefully analyzing his post, I started extracting some words, pasted them together and now I know what grinds your gears: 1. Nvidia made more profit than AMD. 2. Financial experts had little interest in AMD.

True. But to be fair, the RSX (Nividia) chip in the PS3 was just a lightly modified G71 (7900 series) so it is rather representative. Xenos (AMD) however, you are right on. It was a very much stand alone design that was between an R520 and the R600 as well as working with eDRAM.

While I'm a little skeptical of how little AMD would be making off these chips, it really isn't too surprising when you really think about it. The Cell processor in PS3 was an undoubtedly expensive chip, and when using it to it's full potential was better than a lot of x86 chips when it was first released. Nvidia, as well all know, isn't the cheapest company around, and also has a tendency to take business matters into their own hands. AMD is using a friggin Jaguar APU. Sure it might have 8 cores, but it's one of their cheaper APUs, for mobile purposes. AMD is also very willing to do anything for companies as long as they profit. When you consider the fact that Intel makes more money in pure profits than AMD makes net total, it isn't surprising that even something as crappy as a $10 profit would be considered considerable enough to them. And lets not forget, AMD PC hardware will likely benefit from the micro-optimizations made for these consoles. Their non-APU products will likely see the least amount of benefits, but I'm sure AMD will make more sales in at least their APU department. Another thing to consider is Valve may be considering using AMD for their console, though just rumors at this point. While AMD would probably be making considerably more money here, they would also have to pay more linux developers.

Cell processors was performant on his own, but was really bad for gaming software. Developpers have really hate working with this chips. ( Without speaking about all the problem who have appear on the start of the production ). The second thing to think is Nvidia was not product and sold the chip, chipset etc.. They was licence it.. As for the Bundle, well the cards in question are in retail shop since start of 2012.. its not new card, they will anyway lower the price at this point for empty the stocks before new cards is coming. Its not so different of Nvidia using GTX680-GK104 for the 770 and a lower price point. The game bundles have work really well so far, i dont see why they will not do it again.. ( And the offer is limited in time, and not all shops and country got it ) In thoses times where economy is not so good, this help some peoples to increase the value of their purchase and it still put good visibility on old gpu who are still extremely competitive against nvidia offering: The 770 who is basically a GTX680 overclocked is not faster of the 7970ghz and offered at similar price point, and you find a similar thing for the 760 ( a mix between the 670 and 660 OEM )0.. Peoples who see there's a special offer will go read some review... Nvidia have just try put thoses product in competion with the AMD GPU'S, not more, not less... if AMD offer valuable Bundle.. its all benefit for them. The 780 for his part is at a completely different price point, let alone Titan.

I love how everyone forgets that the Wii-U is still around (also with an AMD GPU). Though it is already dead on arrival, for the last six months the the original Wii has been outselling the Wii-U 6:5 and the Wii-U has only sold a mere 3.61 million units since launch (including the Christmas ******). What's even more pathetic is how Nintendo intends on fixing this... by releasing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Super Mario 3D World, as well as Wii Party U and Wii Fit U in the coming months. They are completely out of touch.

Nintendo needs to jump out of the console maker and just start doing software and handhelds.
