One could be happy if prices were same as they launched now it is +40-50% more..

Empty promises again. AMD you have had a massive big chance to change that nVidia started with the big mess and unavailable stock, but you have turned out even worse! And now again you have promised something that you cannot keep...! But hell yeah you know what?If I can get a reference 6800XT or 6900XT at MSRP in Q1 then I will get one. It's never going to happen.

"AMD you have had a massive big chance to change that nVidia started with the big mess and unavailable stock, but you have turned out even worse" Yes they are so stupid, should have gathered more GFX cards from the trees where they are growing in a vacuum, not being affected by real world. Baad AMD

I think both companies knew exactly how this was going to play out.

Yeah the AMD GPU's show up in stock but cost way more than recommended for almost all of the current models then for NVIDIA the demand on the 3070 and 3080 means there's little to no stock since everything goes to fill ever increasing pre-orders a few 3070's show up now and again along with the 3090's which retains inventory due to the high price of these even compared to the new AMD card prices. Curious what happened with the pricing it was bad at 150 - 200 Euro above reference now closing in on 400 above reference it's ridiculous, NVIDIA is stable so far but I suppose the retailers also can't easily shift the pricing when hundreds of cards are waiting on stock for existing placed orders at the launch price level whereas AMD had some reminder system short of getting the reference GPU's so the cost could be adjusted since there were no existing orders for these. ~ It's gotten better at least the 6800 is now under 900 Euro ha ha, ha ha ha.

The problem is also that their RDNA 2 architecture is also used in both Xbox Series X & PS5 which makes fewer chips available even if it is cut-down, it takes more time to manufacture also because third-party companies are working hard but with fewer people due to the pandemic.

Why do you think Nvidia went for Samsung for GPU manufacturing? AMD remained at TSMC, which Nvidia abandoned this time because they couldn't get a sufficient quota for chips. TSMC has been working at full capacity for a while, so it's simply impossible to get more chips out from there (plus there are also other factors than the GPUs themselves). Now even governments are begging for TSMC to do something about it, but what TSMC basically can do is raise prices and apparently shift production order a bit if plausible, but that won't help gamers. It has been a catastrophe for the market that GlobalFoundries suddenly decided to stop competing.

I've just recently heard that GlobalFoundries is working on it's own 3nm. I really hope they can catch up at some point because TSMC cannot produce more than they are now. AMD simply just shouldn't promise anything as they pretty much know what is going on at TSCM. As I wrote that I would be more than happy to get an 6800XT or 6900XT from them if is priced around MSRP. I'm affraid this is not going to happen anytime soon.

Sure, us customers who want to buy product are ticked off because we cannot find it unless you want to pay well over MSRP. But, if you are AMD this is some kind of dream come true. You have beat down your biggest competitor a bit, you cannot make product fast enough, and you have a number of large long term contracts for your chips. While we are pissed they are probably throwing parties where they make money angels. My point, they have no motivation to change any of that anytime soon.

Hopefully this GPU shortage situation will get better but I think it's going to take more than one quarter or even the year. I bought my 5700XT last spring as a stopgap, hoping to buy an even better card this winter (now). I also want to replace it so I can give it to my son, who wants something better for his Rift S. He's a had a really crappy year (Mom recently committed suicide as a topper to his shit year...) so I'm going to do something for him soon on the GPU front regardless of the expense, but it really aggravates me that PC gaming has become such an absurdly expensive hobby and there seems to be no end in sight.

So if they are to have GPUs to sell from AMD website, should they not be for msrp? Hopefully this will be so and limited to one per purchase.

It has been said before, but this is no dream come true for either Nvidia or AMD. This is a distressing situation where they can't produce enough to meet the demand. Units they can't sell because they haven't got anything to sell is 100% lost profit. Right now the shortage is too big. They can raise prices, but that pissess off the customers. Only Apple can raise prices without making customers angry.

I certainly hope GF is reconsidering its choices. Time will tell. The only reason why anyone could buy a new video card right now is because the prices are so artificially high that it stops the demand. From my point of view that's no different from no stock. I guess the shops are happy to maintain this for a little while, especially if they are still fulfilling some old orders. In the meantime, there could always be an occasional crazy person who would pay +40% for the card. The shops don't want to drop the prices as long as there's a danger of the supply running dry again and only scalpers profiting. Once warehouses are full of stuff, I guess the prices will drop as scalpers can't scalp anymore at that point. Unfortunately I don't think the prices will drop to the original levels because of other factors.

TSMC needs to cut Apples throat, they're the ones hogging all the resources @ TSMC Apple isn't as important as the rest at this time, common sense again has passed them up.

We will just have to agree to disagree. It is the dream of every business to make product as fast as they can and for it to fly off the shelves as they do. The end consumer is just part of their business and most of them will buy the product pissed off or not so it does not really matter. At the end of the day they are making cash by the bucket loads.

Good luck with that, considering that German government just offered Taiwan vaccines for COVID in exchange for priority in TSMC for their automotive chips for cars. Not to mention all the other stuff, like XSX/PS5 chips etc.

Interestingly enough that is not the first deal I heard of like that in the way of COVID vaccines. From what I understand, Israel offered whatever pharmaceutical company it was peddling COVID vaccines, health data of their population. I am not sure if that was simply data about what happens with the vaccine or more. My point here is that countries are willing to make deals with prized assets for the vaccine. This just highlights how competitive and how in demand that chip production is right now. Although I do feel these deals will be short term only because I don't believe the vaccine will prove to be very useful but that is just my opinion. Will be interesting to see who gets priority to make their chips over the long and short haul.

TSMC can´t afford to lose a customer like Apple. They buy a lof of chips every year and they don´t mind to pay. What TSMC needs is more factories but those take time and cost lots of money. And they are an huge risk.
