Until ETH mining flops , we won't see any reasonable GPU prices . I really hope no other crypto will be as much profitable on GPU mining .... if so we might not see reasonable prices in any foreseeable future. 🙁

if they were available that would be fantastic,I'd get the refreshed 6800/xt even now that I got a 3060ti. it's still an appealing card to me even this late.

Eth mining on gpu is a good thing if the supply was enough as nvidia/amd will push for the maximum performance. The flagship gpu's always costed $500 and the entry levels $99 and should be back here if the goal is to reach more gamers across all economies. If the current trend continues PC gaming will suffer.

Miners seem to be more than happy with the current cards, so why not refresh them? Minimum effort but maximum sales at maximum prices. Gamers? What are gamers? It feels like I may have heard such a word a long time ago.

RX6x50? Considering intel ark is coming and nvidia spamming like 30skus its not bad idea to refresh the rdna2 cards.

To reset MSRP ( readjust). It's same what nvidia did with 12gb 3080. It changes nothing for gamers . Just more money to AMD.

Considering AMD is selling out of everything, I wouldn't blame them for doing such a minimal bump. There's no incentive to do much else. I just hope they're actually R&D'ing something gamers will want when the mining bubble bursts. While RDNA2 isn't bad, it's not particularly future proof.

Even if all mining operations would end today, it would take 2 years for prices to drop to before the mining boom.

Gamers are the "idiots" who have been supporting videocard makers until they could reach their real customers (miners)...

Pretty much this. Selling the same card at higher prices, AMD and Nvidia don´t want the to leave the all fun (money) to all the others (scalpers)...

They have to in order to keep engineers around. If no work is going on while these companies just try to refresh for maximum profits, all the good engineers will just leave. It was a massive problem for Intel and it's going to be no different for Nvidia/AMD if they choose to just stagnate for the sake of profit.

Sad, but true.

They are trying to do what Nvidia is doing with the "scummy" 3080 12gb, make more money. How dare they!

Supply will never be enough. As long as mining keep being profitable on GPU rich miners will keep buying all the stock available. You could put 1 billion cards on the market tomorrow and they would be gone in 15 minutes and they would be sold in bulk directly to rich mining farms from MSI, GB, Asus, .... As for AMD releasing new useless cards to artificially inflate the MSRP well shame on them like nVidia.

A "new" GPU "release"... how exciting!!!

Ill swap out my 6800xt for a faster 6900xt lol

They need the R&D anyway for the professional compute accelerators, even if miners were more easily satisfied. Demand for GPUs in data centers is big, and the money is big as well. Just like in the mining market, in the server GPU market AMD is an underdog compared to Nvidia. Now Intel as well is entering the market. In fact I kind of doubt Intel would be entering the discrete GPU market at all if the server side didn't exist. But as it is, the server systems can sport multiple GPUs per single CPU, so it's quite good business.

Prices can't come down if you keep releasing new products. Same old games.

Most often refreshes like these are in the plans early, so this is just natural progression and works at the same time as a response to Nvidia's refreshes. I guess they want to ensure that mass production succeeds on lower clocks first, at the same time ensuring their financial investment too since a new product launch is a big money sink. Nothing bad in an updated version if price remains the same (in normal times), since customers only benefit. It is hard to say though if Nvidia really planned a twelve gigabyte model of RTX 3080 to be released too early, since that product with it's added VRAM really suits miners better. I'm hesitant to believe that Nvidia originally released their 3000 lineup with rather low memory amounts to make them unappealing for miners, instead they just were going to maximize profits and had to bump up the memory later on because AMD offered it surprisingly much. Now the situation is so safe for selling any GPUs you produce, even Nvidia can bump up memory amount so miners would grab their cards at first hand. If Nvidia is easily going to get great profit, they surely will offer lots of VRAM too, but normally they are stingy with VRAM, unless the product is extra expensive. Now that I think about the VRAM sizes, was RTX 3060 (12 Gb) in fact a product directly aimed for miners after all?

these products are usually a result of a stockpile of parts that don't fit into any of the existing bins being available.
