I don't know why they insist on doing this. Don't include a cooler and charge $10 less. No one wants some junk cooler on a CPU meant for demanding tasks. Even these improved coolers look like bottom-tier junk.

Except as an option...:)

Doesn't AMD also sell processors without the cooler?

Almost nobody buys a high-end unlocked processor for gaming, encoding, etc, then leaves the pitiful stock cooler on it. AMD understood this and that's why in the past they opted to exclude a stock HSF.
Who here has ever ONCE bought a high end chip then used the stock cooler on it permanently? Anyone?

Oh dear, what a gimmick. A good product doesn't need flashy bs, please.

The Wraith is as good as a 212, and there are a LOT of professionals who would love to have proper stock cooling for their never-overclocked high end CPU.

Exactly, stock coolers are fine for 90% of the population.
Forcing enthusiast stuff on those who don't want or need it just looks like a scam.
Saying that, CPU cooling has never been something i have spent money on, as the most i have ever spent has been £15.
I like this, and imo the only people who should be threatened by a good stock cooler are those who profit from convincing the masses things will go tits up if they don't buy something else.

These coolers at least look like they can work on a system. Compared to the old things and intel coolers. And well some people like flashy lights.

I think it is ok to include one, I for one would like to have one with each cpu I buy, even and exactly because I run a custom loop wc.
Sometimes when you troubleshoot and change boards etc. it is easier to have a simple, included, matching cooler always at hand and dont have to mount the whole wc system to boot.

Everyone i know that works on computers, always keeps the stock cooler.
Even if your not using it, its a decent backup if the aftermarket one fails/stops working, or like this time, when an upgraded socket requires a new bracket.
This way i can use it until the bracket comes out.
And anyone that uses an aftermarket cooler, mosy likely in the +50-100$ range, and you complain about a 10-15$ difference? Really?
How about spending 5min to search and find the aftermarket cooler where it's on sale??
