Oh for gods sakes, fire the marketing director already! This is the second brand destruction in nearly as many years. First they destroyed the APU branding (which was just starting to gain traction and was an excellent name) and now they are destroying the GPU branding to an even more cryptic one?
AMD was supposedly sued over the "Fusion" branding according to a post in another thread. If this is the case, they were forced to stop using it for their APUs.

I know, but this was definitely a case worth settling on. In any case, they should have transferred to a similar sounding brand (e.g., Fission); or at the very least kept some brand name.
Intel has very common brand names that almost everyone knows: Celeron, Pentium, Core, Atom (less so). AMD finally was on the right track with their own brand name for consumer awareness, and they throw it away for some cryptic "A-series" and "FX-series", which absolutely fvck all consumers recognize. If I was a regular consumer and I was shopping for a PC, a "Pentium" would ring with me far more than some "A8" from a brand I have no idea about (AMD).
This is but a small part of their absolutely disastrous marketing department. Their department has this issue with constantly comparing themselves to their competition, instead of promoting their brand on its own merits.
Everyone was know they will drop the HD prefixe, it dont make sense today ( if it have make a sense one day ).. then they hit the ATI 9000series.. so its absolutely normal they use something in between.. R " for Radeon" is a good choice, for the rest, yet there's it seems just more speculation about what will be the final name. Without saying you have then, FirePro, Fire Remote gpu, etc etc..
Having call the FirePro S10000 was allready sound enough strange. i can understand they dont want go in the AMD Radeon HD10970 10950 etc..

Its like allways, you will have the higher model with a certain number scheme and then it go down, at same time of the price ( R x970> Rx950 > R x870 ).

You're forgetting to put "Core" or "Pentium" in front of the Intel names, which changes it up:
Intel:
Celeron
For AMD, you could have: Trinity APU , Kaveri APU ..
E series are = Embedded CPU , ( the Atom series ( for Intel ) ).. A stand for the APU, and the FX series was allready used on A64 time with the FX60-FX53 FX40 ..
E = low power Embedded CPU .. ( Brazzos, Temash )
A = APU, A4-A6-A8

Exactly, me and you understand what's going on. But then again, we have both spent 100's of hours tinkering with computers and reading about them. The average consumer either walks into a shop to try out a laptop, or goes to Dell/HP online and orders one. They don't want to have to read for dozens of hours to see what stacks up where, they just want to go with something that they know will be fast and sounds familiar.

Whats a Celeron?
Even the Pentium would draw mostly blank responses, you would literally have to say Intel Pentium and even then the vast majority of people would not know or care.
Someone even mentioned above people would know, i3, i5, i7, I can tell you the vast majority would not.
What I am trying to say is the the vast majority is uninformed and really does not care to be informed, they rely on others who have some knowledge to basically tell them 'This is what you want'.
