That doesn`t sound good
This can be both bad news and good news. If AMD desides to sell and the company that buys them doesn`t want a role in the pc market, that leaves us with only Intel, and than Intel could price their processor as they whish. I don`t wanna even mention the graphics industry. Good news if the company that buys them desides to invest in the processor developement section, cuz I think the main reason for AMDs low performing processor is their budget in developement. They have lost a lot of ground after Intel introduced the Core 2 lineup, since then it seems that AMD can`t get back on it`s feet. Maybe just a miracle can save them.

That's what the last uber driver was all about then i guess, a big 'see ya'll laters!, Fun while it lasted!' type.
Hope not though.

When Bulldozer was released we all saw this coming.

BLEH!
Eep, not good.

AMD could just drop the CPU market, and instead start working on Havoc/physics a bit more. Nvidia is doing great in those areas - because they are exploring every possible rendering method.
And just to think, I was going to upgrade to an all AMD based system.

Still, if the world remains with only one CPU manufacturer for PCs that won`t do us any good

I do think this is worrying news but i'm trying to look on the bright side. I doing truly hope that they will continue in the cpu market. Having no alternatives to Intel would make the market really boring for us enthuisiasts even if Intel didn't end up increasing prices.
I still remember the days when I got into PCs and the Intel Pentiums were being demolished across the board by AMD. All that changed with Conroe.

I don´t like to say this but i think we are witnessing the end of AMD at least as we know it.
They simply can´t compete against Intel and the ARM market is already too crowded for them to make a significant difference. The only bright spot on their side is the gpu department but even that has a strong opposition from Nvidia.
As for some other company buying them i really don´t see who might be interested. Aside from their GPU techs and patents they don´t seem to have much too offer because no one wants a x86 to compete against Intel, with the possible exception of Nvidia!?... (I know this is almost impossible but it´s the only company occurring to me that could be interested on such licenses...). They could sell the gpu department but even the candidates ofr that are scarce.
The way i see it they may be preparing to stop producing cpus directly and move on to be a company like ARM, selling only cpus and gpus designs or something like that.
I really hope they survive this phase but i wouldn´t bet on it...

AMD should sell the cpu part to nVidia and the gpu part to intel 😉

AMD have denied it.

I searched for threads including AMD in the title and this isnt included.

When they released Bulldozer and it didn't live up to the expectations it was obvious that this was going to happen. The AMD Cpus just couldn't compete with Intel. That's what you get for laying off your engineer staff.
