I wished AMD released this in May... Oh well

Not a bad chip for the price but the gaming performance remains weak...
So it seems i will stick with Intel for my next cpu.

Here even i5 is more expensive than this chip, making it a good choice.

Excellent review Mr Hilbert!
Posted the link @ pCARS forums for the community members to read 🙂

Maybe im wrong, but it is named Vishera architecture not Vashera Hillbert ( like you nearly repeat it 10 times the first pages .)

I was thinking of getting an Intel E3-1230v2 but was also waiting for Vishera release in-case... I know your probably thinking I'm crazy but I hardly seem to play games these days... The 8320 seems pretty decent for $169 but then so does the 1230v2 for $250.
Mainly interested in general system performance, 3d modeling, video editing and transcoding while mutlitasking other stuff (currently using another computer for most intensive stuff but it's not mine...).

Pretty nice step up by AMD, only problem is power consumption, but the price is far better then faildozer.

So is this better than Phenom II 955BE, or worse in the end of the day?

Very nice! Its good to see AMD's Piledriver right in the top of the mix. While it still isn't the best of the best for gaming, the everyday user performance will shred. It almost makes me wish I held out on my computer upgrade, although I think its clear that even with this performance boost, it isn't worth moving from Bulldozer to Vishera. For someone upgrading from Phenom or previous generation though, I'd definitely go for it!

This Cpu still sucks as a gaming chip but it looks like it would make a good video workstation chip. It scores well in cinebench and in Transcoding benches and is price competitive for those uses. It also offers clearer upgrade paths and an attractive chipset feature set. Still its a power hog and it doesn't suit my usage but at least I could in good conscience now recommend it to somebody which is progress of a sort right?

I think this chip is a step in the right direction for AMD, as I recall they promised around 5-15% performance increase on average and they've delivered that. Anyone who was expecting more obviously wasn't paying attention.
Not sure what Steamroller is going bring, Piledriver does quite well in Heavy Multithreaded Apps, so perhaps Steamroller will concentrate a little more on Single Threaded Performance to close the gap on Intel in that regard. I think Steamroller is going to be on the same 32nm process, which means I can't see AMD pushing Clock Frequencies any higher without a lot more serious reductions to TDP which they've already done with this revision of BullDozer.
As for gaming, only looking at Hilberts results so far, it performs on a par with 3770K, 3570K in Crysis 2 at 1920*1200 which is the res you would expect the vast majority of people would be running thats buying/bought this chip. So for people to say gaming on it sucks I feel is a little wrong, however I need to check out other benchies to see how its performed.
If I had an AM3 board with an 1090T or something I'd probably upgrade to this, if however I was building a complete new system I'd probably wait for Haswell or Steamroller as both AM3 and 1155 are now dead sockets, assuming steamroller uses a different socket can't see AMD sticking with AM3 for 4 Generations of CPU.
My biggest gripe with the 8350 is its Power Consumption, man its hungry for juice, so if I had to build a new system right now I'd go with Ivy Bridge purely because it consumes less power, well maybe because it offers a little more performance in other areas, Don't do any heavy multithreaded stuff here 😉
Bring on Steamroller, hopefully it can close the performance gap even further and give Intel something to think about.

This actually doesn't seem like a bad little chip. If I hadn't upgraded already, I'd be considering it right now.

Looks like a solid workstation chip to me, shame about the power consumption. Hope to see that lower with future releases.

Nice review. It's good to see AMD improve over their last gen CPU. When I upgrade my folding rigs in February, I'm going with 4 of these.
