I foresee issues with price and availability. I believe it's going to get harder and harder to find stock at a fair price and not way over retail prices. I'll be with AMD 5000 series at least til Zen 5 or whatever comes after Zen 4.

I reckon the expenses compensation only applies to CPUs, where AMD is already facing tough competition from Intel, and in fact below HEDT, Intel is currently more interesting. On the GPU side it doesn't matter since end user prices aren't based on expenses but bottomless greed.

With the gpu market and prices it's no surprise

Good and said in the same time! Next generations are always welcome, but at what cost?

CPU chips are much smaller than the ones for a GPU. And have a much higher profit margin. So I bet AMD is going to focus most of it's allocation on TSMC, on making CPUs. Chances are the CPUs will have decent availability and have a price close to MSRP. But I'm guessing that AMD is going to price them rather high, like they did with Zen3 when they released. On the GPU side, maybe it will be a bit better than RDNA2. But I bet that availability is going to be bad, especially if these GPUs are any good at mining. In summary, 2022, just like 2021.

Unless they radically outperform Alder and Raptor, AMD can't afford to price them at a premium. They made their killing with Zen3 and during the pandemic rush. Those days are over. GPUs on the other hand are fair game, although I'm seeing quite a lot of stock at inflated prices. The bubble might be about to burst there, too.

Electricity got a lot more expensive (in europe at least dunno about usa power bills 😛) while eth so far dripped from 4k+ to 2400 , so small time miners that have less than 100 cards are on the verge of keep mining ir to sell their cards i bet , so as things are i think on their majority they do not want to buy . If the crypto market keep going on the correction path eventually there will be panic and mass exodus it happen twice already 2014 (much smaller scale) 2018 and it will happen now too i believe and i believe it will happen in the future too again.

They can if their supply can meet customer demand, a 3090Ti at £1000 is not a bargain if there is zero availability.

I find it strange when people say this. On thr CPU side, no matter if its intel or AMD, you have CPUs going for $500 and up (yes i know there are ones cheaper thats not my point) This is...just for the CPU. The CPU dies are generally not as large and costly as GPU dies within the same (normal, MSRP) price bracket. Again this is for just the processor...no board, no memory, no power delivery requirements, all of that is extra that you have to buy. But GPU manufacturers are the ones blamed for being greedy. The margins on CPUs are high, the margins on GPUs at MSRP prices have always been low, especially in comparison, now demand is out the window causing prices to be crazy, yet the GPU manufacturers/AIBs are still getting less margin then CPUs at their MSRPs.

That's indeed correct and something I've thought about for many years as well. However, it's still the traditional pricing system of the components. It's not like CPU prices would have especially jumped up, although they may have gradually got somewhat more expensive, depending on how you look at it. It's a complicated issue due to the decade of degeneration that only ended when AMD finally got back on its feet and released Ryzen. Graphics cards, however, are now twice as expensive as they would be if miners hadn't ruined everything. They have also got more expensive in a more "normal" way, which was an issue many pointed out especially when Ampere was released, but that was perhaps the same kind of inflation we have seen with CPUs. Sure, CPUs have a much higher profit margin, but they have "always" had it. Miners' bottomless greed caused graphics cards to double their prices, which isn't normal. If a mid-mainstream card had always cost 1000 euros, then, sure, the new normal profit margin would be more equal to CPUs (and PC gaming would be a mere shadow of what it is), but that's not how things have been.

As we know it will depend on performance, this time around folks will have the same choice to make as AL , new board , new Ram etc so the prices will need to mirror Intels unless of course its a massive uplift on AL performance, I can see that happening as the all core at 5ghz statement was certainly aimed at keeping folks interested, either way for us as users its frickin awesome that we have 2 quality offers on the Table after our cash, long may it last (confession not had Intel since a failed core2duo)

Small hint its going to be a massive uplift. No way AMD doesn't get huge IPC gains from all that extra transistor density TSMC's 5nm will provide(45% density reduction). Also AMD are moving to DDR5 which will help IPC as well. I'm sure Intel will have some large gains with Raptor Lake on Intel 4 which is there first EUV node like TSMC's 5nm.

It's funny to me when Intel released their new architecture, people were saying "AMD is dead" even though we were comparing new Intel vs. a year old AMD offerings. I'm super excited we finally have some competition again after a decade of Intel stagnation with their +++++++++++++++ and 2-5% perf increase. I'm also happy with RDNA2 and I pray I will finally be able to buy 6800/3080 this year for a more normal prices. I started seeing 6800xt for ~1000 EUR every now and then (last quarter they were 1600 EUR and up). But Nvidia 3080/3070 are still nowhere to be found for any semblance of a "normal" price.

Those Wccftech commenters saying that aren't people, they are trolls. Every single one of them, no matter which side they seemingly take. So, don't take it as a sign of people thinking one way or another.

Why do you not want to compare them to each other, if they cost the same? For example Ryzen 5 3600 and 12500 both tray, both cost 210€. AMD forget to lower their prices. Though i have an 3600X if i would buy a new system now, i would probably go with Intel.

There were a lot of comments *here* about "AMD Dead".

What? Have you already forgotten intel's big issue with security flaws? It's still a big deal even with their latest CPU series most of the flaws are not resolved yet. https://www.zdnet.com/pictures/all-the-major-intel-vulnerabilities/ Security-wise intel should be the last option out of the whole competition party. A tiny bit more performance with their latest CPUs doesn't make the flaws go away either and is not worth the exchange imo.

AMD isn't "dead" any more so than Intel were when Threadripper and then Zen 3 caught them napping. They did, however, lose their short-lived competitive advantage in gaming applications.

That's an interesting sale pitch there mate. Good luck with that. Btw, not saying you're wrong - but I am saying people couldn't give a flying boomerang.

1) this will outperform AL quite nicely due to uArch tweak and node improvements. RL is a different beast entirely and remains to be seen, but AM5 will hit market 1st. furthermore, the lower power Zen 4 will "smoke" z690 mobos with efficiency. both NV and AMD current gen GPU's will be more than double the power draw of the CPU. that efficiency is a big deal. i happen to have cheap electricity but most do not.
