Big Navi will most likely be rdna2 later this year. 56/64cu 5800/5900xt incoming.

Whatever it is, it will battle with the Ampere, and it will be somewhat competitive (maybe not to the top card of Nvidia), just like we used to know from AMD. Raytracing, I'm still curious to see if it there will be specialised HW (cores) or if they do brute force mode via compute and software. But the one thing that I take away from this, they will have some RT, but just like with Nvidia right now, the performance won't be anything like we expect. So hold your horses, still no 4K60 full ray tracing incoming in 2020 from any competitor (and with full RT I'm meaning, not just a single effect like RT global illumination, the other RT reflections, third game some other aspect, but ALL of it in one scene).

All I care about is solid raster performance. In addition to that if they can provide ray tracing without special dedicated hardware on the chip ("cough" "cough" turding which doesn't do anything most of the time and just sits around) we can have a wonderful product most certainly at a lower cost in comparison to Nvidia. Never ever again I will spend more than 500EUR on a GPU, if they will go with 800-1000 EUR price range, that will be a strong pass from me.

They said dedicated hw will be used for rt. Amd will also need some similiar feature to dlss (hopefuly better).

I see. In terms of DLSS, they sort of already have which works better (imo) - lower game resolution + use AMD sharpening. I've tried this method with several titles, works flawlessly. Truth is, either I'm getting less picky, but for example in The Blair WItch game, I lowered resolution one step down from 1440p (used in game 90% slider) slapped on top of it sharpening, and in combination with TXAA I couldn't notice any difference. Image was the same, performance was better (at least you couldn't notice any major blurring at all).

Look at the price of a 5700 XT right now, and then imagine how much room there is between those and your 500 EUR to put a new card. None. 5700 XT already spans from say ~390 to ~480 EUR, a true high-end card will not be below 500, not even close.

They should fix their stuff before launching new cards, 5700 series has been plagued with countless bugs since launch, especially drivers, and bioses.

And? You are very good at basic math, congratulations. But what is your point? Did you even read what I wrote? It can cost two grand for all I care. If 500 get me a mid-range, that's what I will settle for. Never again above that.

You have one and talking from your experience or you just guessing?

Almost firsthand experience (i made a friend buy a 5700XT and i've been dealing with its problems until a few days ago when we decided to return it) and AMD forums and reddit section.

I never heard Hilbert complaining how 5700's are unusable and broken and the guy reviewed and recommended like 20 of them.

I haven't had a single issue with my card, neither hardware nor software. It works flawlessly and stable. What are the issues your friend is facing?

Just guessing here, but, I expect it to be the desktop equivalent to the Xbox Series X gpu, except with higher clocks etc. It'll be a very important product from AMD for sure though.

Problems with fanstop which cannot be disabled in one bios, and with the other you need to load the profile manually otherwise the fan will work with the default one, videogames crashing to desktop, and once or twice he Bsod. Don't act like there's never anything wrong with AMD, because when it comes to videocards there's often something wrong, And this ain't an isolated thing, like i said visit AMD community support forum, and AMD's reddit section, there's plenty of these problems, especially drivers as of now.

The confirmed issues would be the downclocking problem under primarily D3D9 but also some D3D11 titles where it drops to below 1 Ghz clocks or even idle causing frequent framerate drops and stuttering. For Adrenaline 2020 OpenGL has problems (Had since 19.12.1 actually.) and several D3D11 titles will no longer start at all. Wattman wise the fan customization is very imprecise since 19.7.2 and it still works via stepping rather than curvature, core clock speeds can vary from set values with up to 100 Mhz and it never really hits the boost speed instead often settling around 50 Mhz lower. The black screen issues, TDR's and frequent shutdowns and crashes are hard to pin, power spikes are common so that will explain those using a split cable when the GPU momentarily goes from 150 - 180w to over 300w but the rest is very difficult to track down and find a cause for, I've been looking at all kinds of reports and suggestions and nothing completely works plus it's very random in how it happens so a full solution will probably be tricky. EDIT: As to "Big" whether it's 5900 or something in the 6000 series well if they can sort out the driver situation now for Navi and RDNA I'm hoping for a smooth launch for Navi2 for the second half of the year though I have no idea how this ray tracing situation will develop since it's going to be NVIDIA and their method and AMD and well on PC they don't exactly have that many titles they've been working with and implementing features for but who knows. 🙂

Individual manufacturer related, not the actual GPU.

Honestly - haven't had that once, and I mostly play old games.

Can be a plethora of things which are unrelated to the GPU. What makes you think GPU was the cause?

Haven't had that once. Manufacturer BIOS related most likely. Only thing I've personally had was Metal Gear Ground Zeroes ( I think that's the name of the game), where GPU fan would stay idle in the menu, meanwhile GPU temp would go up and up all the way to 78c with fans not spinning at all (my profile), once you get to the actual game they will work normally.

Use Afterburner.

All of those issues are related to the PSU. Example - friend got a Corsair 850w platinum PSU, in a single rail mode that PSU from 1 cable would cause the above mentioned issues. Solution - enable dual rail mode or use two cables. Forums were full of similar cases.

They are still having issues like this. I remember having random hard locks when my 6959’s would switch fine 2d to 3D clocks.

Yup, same here. Personally I have rad7, and I play now all games without issues. My son have 5700xt nitro+, 0 issues so far(well, except his complain about overlay in newest drivers). His friend with 5700xt pulse reports no problems so far. On his second card must add, 1st one went dead after 3days, RMA, got new, no issues now. But hey, 2080 premier was flawless, ain't it? But we all using evga g3 or g3 750w and 850w PSUs, so...

For D3D9 almost every title is affected though some downclock a lot more than others, D3D11 there's Borderlands 3, Overwatch and I'm not sure what DOTA2 or CS:GO is actually using. CPU's the first suspicion since D3D9 would be single threaded but then with D3D11 it's hard to say and even the more CPU limited titles (Assassin's Creed Odyssey for example.) don't exhibit this issue. Minecraft is the one that seems to be affected worst but from how it's looking the AMD driver is hitting the Java Runtime Environment so that's why it's going down to running at idle speeds of around 100 Mhz or so. Many of the others such as Overwatch or DOTA or CS "merely" drop to the 1 Ghz range but that's still a large dip in framerate and noticeable stuttering as a result. Games not starting up would be Dead or Alive 6, Nioh, Atelier Ryza and I think Mortal Kombat 11 with MK11 as a known issue from before. OpenGL issues also affects at least RPCS3 for PS3 emulation but a AMD staff already confirmed the issue as logged so that has a chance of being resolved soon. Others like Witcher 3 or Borderlands 3 are affected by driver crashes which I think for Witcher 3 just going to Novigrad is what triggers it though I'm still trying to find more info on how many titles are affected and in what way. (For Assassin's Creed Odyssey there's also a issue in Fate of Atlantis Episode 3 where looking up at the skybox will immediate crash the game which has been going on for a few months now though that's a separate problem.) With overclocking Afterburner has to go with how AMD's API is acting but yeah it's a common workaround since you can force the values a bit more as wanted instead of sending it via Wattman and having it round it to however it gets handled pretty sure it can also take control over the fan profile though the curvature/stepping problem has existed now since the Vega GPU's and AMD has done nothing about it. The black screen issue is something I've been dealing with to and from with best results in 19.7.1 to 19.7.5 and then it's random in any newer driver both in the old system and the new one which so far I've found no common solution for why it happens and how to resolve it and I'm still reading reports on it happening for other users too although the frequent usage of split cabling is interesting to see even on higher-end PSU's when it really shouldn't be used for components that draw a lot of power. Which sure Navi has less of a requirement and can be downvolted even further but the spikes do still happen and that will hit lower quality PSU's and these types of cabling setups when they do. But then it also happens on new X570 motherboards on the latest bios and with Kilowatt gold or platinum rated PSU's and even after multiple GPU RMA's as some users went through the trouble to do so it's not quite clear how this happens. It's a good card when it does work as expected and intended but the various frequent issues are a problem though there's just as many users having no problems at all and trying to get into how and why it happens well it's been six months since I've started reading up on this and so far I've learned very little. 🙂 PCI-E 4.0 on non-supported 400 series motherboards, split cables to the PSU or older or just weaker PSU hardware and then PCI states and power saving but even with all that there's at least one situation where it can black screen on idle such as what I'm getting and one where it happens during when the GPU is under load such as gaming or benchmarking sometimes recoverable sometimes it's just shutting down the entire system or requires a reboot to get out. (Cheaper HDMI and DP cables can be a thing too but it also happens on certified cables so again nothing really to narrow the issue down.) EDIT: I certainly like the GPU though and RDNA as a improved over Vega and GCN in many ways although the software situation is a bit more problematic but there's just so many possible ways it could act up so it's been very hard to find good info and try to narrow down what could be the problem. For every system that has issues there's just as many that don't and a variety of GPU models sometimes several RMA's and no luck at all and both stock settings and when overclocking or undervolting. Something is causing these issues but it's not like it's affecting everybody either so it's not some critical driver issue though for a lot of affected users it does seem the 19.7.x drivers are stable and then it's a bit more mixed with the newer sets. 19.12.1 has gotten some good reports too but there's problem reports as well so again it's pretty mixed in what works and what's causing problems. 🙂 EDIT: Although possible software or hardware issues aside this is a good GPU and if RDNA2 can take it even further that's going to be really interesting to see more about as additional details are made available. Adding HBM again would be a interesting update if they're going for a higher-end or enthusiast model even with the additional cost this adds, refinements from 7nm to 7nm+ or how it was called could also see some nice improvements whether it's higher clocks or efficiency. Features and other stuff like ray-tracing I guess is just speculative for now there's just not enough info. EDIT: One thing I can say though having upgraded to a newer system recently. Upgrade the bios. 🙂 Went with a Gigabyte board myself and the earliest version on their website listed F4 The installed bios on the board was F2 so yeah plus the latest releases specifically list PCI-E compatibility improvements to say nothing of all other changes and fixes from whatever has changed over months and well whatever that bios was. 😀
