So basically... Rebranded X470 without the restriction for GPU and M.2 on PCI-e 4.0.
Very lame AMD, very lame.

Too late for me (bought my B450 in august). Hopefully mine works with Ryzen 4000, I don't care about PCIe 4.0 as I've just switched to NVMe and when I need it for GPU I'll need another computer too.

^^AMD has stated that B450 will support Ryzen 4000. 😀

B450 has been confirmed to work for 4000 series but it will obviously depend per manufacturer and model if they bring out the bios update. I think most popular B450 boards like the MSI Mortar and Tomahawk for example will get decent support.

I was wondering when the B550 motherboards are going to be released. I might get a b550 motherboard with my new rig that I am planning on building this summer. This is indeed good news to me. I hope the price is right.

@wavetrex What else did you want from something that is better than x470 but not x570? which was the non lame solution? enlighten us all.

Any info whether the other pcie slots on B550 boards will be gen 3 or gen 2? The x470 chipset only had gen 3 lanes for the M.2 slots and gpu, everything else was running on gen 2, which was a bummer.
At least the x570 boards brought every slot up to gen 4.

I'd prefer a new chipset like 670X and release a B650 @ the same time this time around.

WTF do people really want,no progress and new motherboard every CPU release .AMD listen up,you need to adopt an Intel way of doing things.
For the record I am happy running AMD CPU on my X470 Motherboard. So If I choose I could run just about any Ryzen CPU released to date and even future releases of CPU's.

They apparently tried by it didn't work.

I agree with @rl66 that PCIe 4.0 is short lived so there is no reason to hassle with it at least for Nvidia and Intel. It doesn't make any difference if next Nvidia GPUs support it or not. Only reason to buy X570 boards are the nice VRMs, otherwise almost anyone could use B350 chipset. The B550 boards are interesting, but not because of the chipset upgrade that much. I'm interested if we will finally get some decent mATX boards and even better ITX ones. Let's hope B550 is now the change for the better, and before any toxicity, AMD is not who decides what kind of boards will be released, the manufacturers are the ones who supervise the situation and decide if better quality is worth it. X570 boards already prove the major interest of manufacturers, but those are pretty much all moneygrabs! Seems like the situation won't get better than with Intel boards price wise.

Besides PCI-E 4.0 there is no other reason to upgrade over any B450 motherboard, right?
