I wouldn't say it's exactly new, Ray tracing has been around for quite some time.
You can find demos to try it out too.

Comparing AMD vs nV is not interesting. As there is always one more capable on particular workload.
Interesting thing is That this was "Built on Vulkan". So we will see different implementation of same effects and different effect quality/impact capabilities.

Well, I can't say anything bad about both of the vendors chose to make this work by devs. Means we might actually see it applied more commonly in the future, if performance permits.

At first when i was watching this video i thought "wtf?! why are they mentioning FX cpus on brand new tech?", i took a look at comments and seen comment of people waiting for rx480 and once again "wtf?!". Then i took a look at date of a video, it is 2016. So amd has this tech since almost 2 years.
