This is a very good sign. AMD now has $29.5m available to actually settle this stuff like a functioning company.

i agree with SSD_PRO...ryzen has AMD flush for the first time in recent memory. bad investors though. short term investing is a pox and a plague for technology companies which rely on (at least) eighteen months finalizing chip design with fabricators (or themselves in the case of Intel). not to mention hassles with differing processes for different nanometer scaling.

Yeah Amd has been doing really well as of Ryzen launch so I hope stuff like these legal issues does not affect them, We finally got some good cpu compatition between Intel and Amd so lets leave it this way please.

What do we all expect though, its as if we think that shareholders are in for the good of the company rather than for money (profit).

Well, the article says that AMD's insurers will foot the bill, so AMD isn't paying directly - that's my understanding from the article.

these are not mutually exclusive. Ideally a good company will make money, a bad company will fail.

share holders are of AMD are now sueing AMD? im not sure if i should laugh or cry on behalf of AMD they dont have enough worries? now they have to worry about be sued by people that have stock in them? I Think there should be clause if you sue and have stock in AMD you forfeit your share back to AMD if you take the cash.

This is not a new thing. Shareholders who bought shares at a certain time can sue the company if they felt that they've been misled. I was a Bank of America shareholder at one time and was notified of a class action lawsuit on my behalf (I think it was for misleading investors on the purchase of Countrywide). I may have also held AMD shares during the mentioned period of time so this might apply to me as well.

maybe we should all sue the company's we have stock in every time there shares and profits go in reverse, putting money in stock is is like gambling there is no guarantee, what if people sued casino cause they lost at "gambling"

Losing money with a stock is one thing. Losing money because the company lied to investors is another. A publicly owned company has a legal responsibility to their shareholders, and if they mislead their investors into buying their stock then those stockholders can sue for damages. That being said, AMD is not admitting that they did anything wrong here (this is a settlement to end the lawsuit and avoid a trial).

Not a very good comparison. Gambling at a casino involves games of chance - only the rules and methods of the game and the probabilities are known going in. Public listed companies are required to publish many reports - quarterly statements, annual reports, proxy statements, even current 8K reports. They often provide forward-looking statements. If the company misleads and injuries someone holding stock based on factual reports, even if there is no proof a misrepresentation was the only factor in that injury, they can be held liable. In this case, AMD avoids a battle in court and settles with no admission of wrongdoing.

Sure but its the judge who decide if actual misleading has happened. If not, you end up paying yourself. I don't see an issue there. And as AMD is paying, they don't count on the judge choosing their side.

I am not very sympathetic towards individuals who rely on sales pitches to make their investing decisions; especially when technology is involved. like the old saying goes, a fool and his money... While they are at it, they should file a suit on behalf of the whole Bulldozer failure. Sometimes individuals need to be taken before they wise up and learn to ferret out when they are being presented with snake oil. Take your lumps and learn from it.

I don't understand. I read this article, fully, and i just can't figure out where AMD did wrong, that means they should be paying money?
data/avatar/default/avatar38.webp
I was notified a few month back that I was automatically included in a class action lawsuit regarding this because I invested during this time period. Will be interesting to know what I get back.

I think most them are corrupt, just like most politician, throw enough money at some one or something you will get the response you want.

Some of the stories I read about intel procedures were downright Dirty man, those guys know how to play the game I will give em that much. Paying companys to use there cpus Inflating benchmark scores Milking the consumer with 4/8 thread cpus since sandy bridge. I do like them I wont lie but it seems like we need both camps to be in the game in order to ignite that fire we currently have, Iam loving it. Amd would do the same thing iam sure if the situatuon was reversed, Just pay that lawsuit off and continue doing what you curtently are Amd.

Dude...they didn't milk anyone...sandy bridge was and is still worth every penny anyone paid for it. And they were cheap compared to Core 2 quad at the time. and don't get me started on Bloomfield architecture prices....! Sandy Bridge was a gift as far as price vs performance goes.
