Even 10K $$$ Intel chip doesn't come with fancy box like this πŸ™‚, Imagine your smile in PC store when u pick it up and all looking- it's like a trophy!.

One might consider purchasing 2 Threadrippers, one to build into your system and one to keep boxed up.

To be frank, I was never too fond of the TR1 box design (reminds me too much of old CRT monitors), although the eye effect was cool. I really like the design of this new box though.

You know a company is making money when they can waste resources on a box!
Lisa Su: "We have increased spending on R&D" AMD engineers: "Umm, where's the new funds?"

No secret agent cases this time?
The secret agent cases will be for TR3 πŸ˜‰

First impressions matter. I'm sure AMD knows that these CPUs (particularly the 32 core model) are going to have some performance issues in some tests due to the additional CCXs accessing memory via the InfinityFabric rather than directly, so, it's a smart decision for them to spend a little extra money on making this seem as fancy as they can.

Der8auer made a memory test on a EPYC 7601, he tested 8 channel and 4 channel (2 of the dies did not have memory connected). Memory read/write speed was halved, but Cinebench showed no difference between 8 and 4 channel. He should have tested multible things though, but it shows that in some cases the memory speed is just good enough, so ekstra speed does not help in some workloads. He was using 2666 memory, 3200 would help to make the difference smaller.

I've been seriously thinking about keeping a threadripper box to put on my curios shelf. I'll just tell plebians it's a model of the Eye of Sauron. πŸ™‚

I've seen a lot of boxes and I tell ya......> That is one Nice Box!!!

It's already got unboxed by IXBT but deleted, the 2990WX will boost up-to 4.2Ghz and the 2950X will boost to 4.4Ghz. 649$ for 12 core and 1799$ for 2990WX! Now as we all know that the prices drop after launch, its looks like the 12C 2920X will make the 9900K hard life, because $649 can get down to ~$550 and this will be 9900K area and the Customer should decide if to put such money in not future up-gradable MB/CPU or go for 2920X and in later he can upgrade the CPU up-to 2990WX or even the new 7nm TR3!. https://videocardz.com/77031/amd-ryzen-threadripper-2990wx-2970wx-2950x-and-2920x-specs-and-pricing-leaked

I'm confused... are you comparing the 2920X to the 9900K? Because they have very little in common.

Now intel will have chips going to 5.5ghz AMD still behind.
And then you woke up all sweaty. Go back to sleep and keep dreaming.

With 9900K Intel is cannibalizing up-to 10 core HEDT CPU's so for the customer (not pure GAMER) that needs to choose between $450~$500 9900K to 50% more cores and HEDT platform with great upgradability for ~$600- then the Pros/Cons thinking starts. Intel made big mess between Desktop/HEDT with the upcoming i9 9900K so not my fault. AMD could keep the 1920X MSRP price for the 2920X but they decided to lower the price to put pressure on Intel,

Lol I love when the banter degrades from the original discussion to my cpu is better than your cpu.:D

well the box is nice but if i had the option to get it like 20 euros cheaper wrapped like a burger ... i would get the burger package as far it works as advertised !

The Threadripper box sitting proudly on my shelf says otherwise πŸ˜‰ https://i.imgur.com/Vo37COo.jpg

as observer with ties to the industry i can say unequivocally that AMD's marketing people are in the right place doing the right things. at Intel, they're in charge (which imo is why they're struggling atm). the AMD people are treating the HEDT market with respect and are showing their love in the packaging. they know our deep down geekyness. next stop action figures πŸ˜‰ 😎:p:p

I will be happy to pay extra $20 for TR and TR2 box, it not like buying 4C CPU, those are Monster CPU's that you should be proud no own, every one that will visit you and sees this box will be" OMG you got the ThreadRipper!" it like that you prefer to save 5% on a FERRARI and get the same performance in a Fiat body, YOU PAY EXTRA ON FERRARI TO GET THE FERRARI's LOOK and luxury!

to begin with 5% on a Ferrari is a substantial discount especially on the more expensive models ! Also is a bit missed example Ferrari does not come in a box .... i want to believe people they buy thread-rippers they buy it for what the cpu can do and not just to show off the box .... ^^ although @D3M1G0D 's box on the shelf looks sweet! ... i kept boxes in the past to put em somewhere as decoration ... but at the end they ended up in the attic because after they where in my pc i did not care enough πŸ˜› , and well i mean ... you can show em the glory of the 32~64 threads on the task manager that will drop their jaws a lot more than the box !
