They're thinking its still 2016, and they can charge whatever they would like with no competition. Which in a purely 1080p gaming respect if you want the absolute best, they're not wrong. For the rest of us, its a bad value proposition when compared against ryzen for almost half the cost.

I agree but I doubt this will be the actual price. However Intel can charge a little more than AMD if the chip outperforms AMD 8-core 2700x and the 9900k should. I am a Ryzen 1800x owner so don't think I have some weird Intel bias. This will get a lot more interesting once AMD releases Ryzen Zen2.

Well, if I was building a gaming PC today I wouldn't equip it with anything less than an i7-8700K, that's already the best gaming CPU & has all it's cores used when playing games like BF1 & BF V. I wouldn't choose anything less because I'm 144Hz 1080p, and I'd want the CPU to push those frames for the next 5 years or so, whilst surviving 2 (maybe 3) GPU upgrades. If you're not interested in 120Hz+ then Ryzen is probably a good bet.

I believe the pricing with the way they currently have their CPU's priced i mean they don't even try to compete on price i hope they start to hurt soon.

Hey thanks for the response buddy. Yeah no im not into high refresh rates and i game at 1440p and have not seen any reason to upgrade my cpu. Id probably buy a 6 core ryzen if i needed it. Im not really into gaming that much.

Still eye balling this CPU. Not going to get it straight at release, but a month or 2 down the line I might.
I'm still on 1080p and also going for that 120/144 framerate and for that you need both IPC & cores.
It's still priced sensible... not great, but sensible. Unlike the GPU market... cough* NVIDIA RTX ... cough*
I'm honestly hoping AMD pulls something out of their hat and I get to buy my first AMD GPU in a few months. Competition is a good thing, which we've clearly seen in 2018's CPU market. Now I just hope AMD does something similar in the GPU market.

Yeah, that way you would get good value high core count goodness, which is more future proof in itself. I'd go for an 8 core Ryzen though, I think it would give more years of useful service.

Generally, PC games tend to mirror the hardware limitations of consoles. Consoles currently have 8 threads, but to my understanding, most games only use up to 6 or 7, since the system reserves a core or two for background/OS processes. So as far as I'm concerned, having an 8-thread CPU will remain suitable until next-gen consoles decide to up the ante (if they even will). This of course is assuming you don't multitask, stream, or run a local game server when playing your games.
And yes, there are several games out there that'll use more than 8 threads, but for 60Hz displays, an 8-threaded CPU will not be a bottleneck.
All that being said, I don't intend to upgrade my CPU until both next-gen consoles have been released.

Yes and no. I only have the extra threads and noticed that. I had your processor for a year (daughter has it) and I noticed the upgrade to a 4790K (4/8) mostly in the minimum frames area (better minimum FPS rates) and overall better performance with no low spikes or stutters. Average framerates weren't dramatically different but the other stuff was noticeable. The new CPUs are even better.
I mention this because at the time, it was literally the only component I replaced in my rig: 4670K-->4790K (I think I had 8GB ram and a gtx970)

Nvidia will soon do it and everyone will complain but still buy it. Why dont just raise the prices now so the enthusiasts can buy out all the stock.
