If one was to plate that himself with those very thin gold sheets, it would probably cost less than 200$. But hey, somebody has to spend the big money they got, gold plated phones too still have their buyers I guess.

This has to be combined with golden teeth. It won't work without it.

I remember to have seen a gold PC chasis from a custom french brand... But it wasn't plated, it was pure 24c (and the final client was in Dubaï).

If it was solid gold in its entirety, it would cost more than 50,000€ and still might be way off, meaning, much more. Imagine a small plaque of gold is 10,000€. Now imagine the entire keyboard. Also, people, the fact that you and me don't have money, it doesn't mean others don't. There are a ton of people out there that have more money for 50 lives. Others spend 10,000€ for golf stick. Each to their hobby. If all of us have had such amounts of money, we would have the best PCs there are. We wouldn't have time to upgrade each new and shiny hardware. And to be honest, I like the last idea.

It does look like gold plating on plastic key caps, surely if the caps were alloy then they'd be smooth.
