I have Acer's 35" Z35 and agree fully. The larger the screen, the further you sit back from it, and the less you see any benefit from higher resolutions. I purposely sought this monitor out and waited for the price to drop, as I didn't want a screen that I was going to have to use upscaling to see everything on - that defeats the purpose entirely. Plus, you get a lot more life from your GPU by sticking to a lower res. I was considering the LG 43" monitor that came out last year, but the z35 ended up going on sale for under $700 just then, and I could not see spending double to get the larger screen and then have my shiny new GPU not be able to push it nearly as well.

lol 1080p is junk. Well for me at least, cuz I run a DAW , and I need real estate the more the better. I have also gotten used to how small thingis are ; I got used to it fast cuz I used to use a FW900 long time ago for 10 years. gl

Your soo wrong here. I have a 28" Sammy @ 1ms @ 4k resolution. Its small yeah, but you get used to it, then you have sh*t load of real estate which I need since I run a DAW. 34" is good for 8k ..... what is this 40" your talking about. Your wrong. Im fine with what I have now and one day I will go to 34" 8k and enjoy life. gl

This is your requirement not majority. Awaiting you use 8K resolution in 100% scaling on 34" monitor. Good luck! Probably only you can see the wording. Sorry I can't. They is already two 8K monitor in market. Dell already start selling and Samsung just announcing. You can buy one of it already now.

PPI are too low at those inches, 1080p is good for 24" or even better 23/22", Also PPI aren't opinion.

The fact you don't see much difference is probably because, you've got used to it, and also because being bigger means that you probably look at it from a further distance, but it's just you not seeing the particular, not the monitor being good. Max inches for 1080p should still be 24", a 27" could be ok with 1440p, a 32 could be good with 4K or UW-QHD in case it's 21:9.

Was this an excuse to show your desks? 😀 Which are quite nice no doubt. The distance is automatically a bit increased when increasing panel size, it's probably something you don't notice, but it's there even if it's something like 10~cms, it's still enough to "trick" your eyes and appreciate the higher pixel density, which is either roughly the same or inferior, so in fact the density hasn't changed, or changed for the worse, but still you see it as if it's better. There's really no way you've been sitting at the same distance shifting from 24 to 34 or 32, it's too much big of a difference, also, the ultrawide monitor will mitigate that difference in size, due to it extending much horizontally, and much less vertically. I assure you that if you were to get 2 monitor with different sizes, different resolution, but with same amount of PPI (with an error of like 2/3 PPI either more or less), and sit at the same distance, you won't be able to appreciate any difference, because in fact there's none, it's not anything I'M saying, it's just like that, so if you're able to see spot some advantage of one monitor over the other, resolution, inches, PPI and sitting distance have nothing to do with that, and instead, a better lighting, color levels and features, will probably have everything to do with that.

Haha oops. 😛 Actually windows itself can't render as nice as macOS, iOS or Android. Yup 1440p render nicer than 1080p but the differences is too little. Some more now Ultrawide in 2560x1080 vs wide 2560x1440 is just different on vertical resolution and Ultrawide is shorter vertical length than wide. The horizontal still same 2560. It is really not much differences in this case. I know my seat distance not so different else I can't touch the keyboard already. Haha. I didn't own 4K display yet in Windows, maybe that will tell a huge different to me. But for 1440p vs 1080p really not that different to me. 🙂

In correct aspect ratio won't stretch the view. Stretching or not is not depends on resolution but ratio.

A 4k 40" monitor will have 110PPI so basically the same density as a 2k on 27" which has almost 109PPI, which is again the same to a 1080p 20" So you won't notice any difference, if you sit at roughly the same distance and keep going up with inches

I won't buy a 40" monitor. It is way too big. Nice size to me is between 27" to 32" for wide. 34" to 38" for Ultrawide.
