Selling a gaming monitor without backlight strobing? This is just junk. They've struck a "144hz" in there and hope someone will be dumb enough to buy these.

C'mon, don't be so harsh. I have the ASUS 144hz monitor and I don't even use the backlight strobing feature (even if it was easy to turn on). The only way to benefit from it is if your game doesn't dip below 60fps, which is terribly hard to do with the unoptimized mess of most games nowadays. This seems like a great monitor for those that want 144hz with no frills. Besides, this is a great trend - 60hz is horrible but the world doesn't realize it yet.

A lot of people around this forum do not like 60hz, and I am 1 of them. Theres more of us that you think.

I hope he meant that 60hz IS terrible. I hope he wasn't sarcastic in his comment.

Yeah because when you try 144hz you'll never want to go back to 60hz :approval:

You should try for yourself. While you may see little crt like flicker @120Hz LightBoost (depends on type of light in room), each image is incomparably sharper than 144Hz on that old asus. I go with more Hz/fps the better, but with vg248qe everyone should try all available modes since GtG in 144Hz mode is somewhat lacking. And it is not easy to turn on, it is SuperEasy™. http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

Unless you're me, and tried a 120hz Asus monitor a while back, and couldn't stand using it unless i was playing a game in 3D. For some reason, 120hz even just under normal web browsing and stuff gave me a raging headache.

ok, cool. I haven't tried 144hz, I run 110/120 and yeah, I agree.

Which planet do you live on? Dude or your eyes are in your head are u are just joking. 60 hz is terrible these days, people that use 120 or 144 hz, they dont return to the 60 hz versions anymore trust me. 60 hz is flikkering, mouselag, no smoothniss, way less sharp, way more input lag. 120-144 hz is smooth desktop, no mouselag, smooth gameplay experience, better frame rates, in overal just 10 times better then 60 hz. But then again i never buy acer, i still prefer asus or samsung lcd,s.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold your horses. He probably got annoyed by its color characteristics @ 120Hz, which is different than at 60Hz, even without LightBoost. There should be no human being that would be annoyed by 120Hz itself on non-refresh displays such as LCDs.

I don't know what it was. When gaming using 3DVision, i'd be perfectly fine playing non stop for an hour or a few. Take the glasses off and use the screen normally browsing the internet or watching movies, and my eyes/head would hurt to the point where i had to shut the monitor off and use my other one. And it wasn't even a lightboost monitor. It was one of the first monitors Asus brought out with 3DVision support. Can't remember the model. as for D4rKy21.... I don't know what monitors you were using back when there was NOTHING in terms of 120hz refresh for LCD's... unless you were still using CRT's then. flickering? None that i can see on my 27" Asus. Mouse lag? Again... if any, it's imperceptible. Smoothness.... yea... cause 60hz isn't CLOSE to smooth. Try telling that to the suckers that'll probably buy the budget 4K Displays... that can only do 4K resolution at 30hz. Less sharp? I'm sorry, but doesn't sharpness have more to do with resolution and PPI than it does the refresh rate? As for input lag... basically the same exact thing as "mouse lag". And again... no idea what kind of monitor you were using... but no noticeable lag on my display. Now, if i have my computer connected to my 47" Vizio "120hz" TV, that's a different story. Input lag out the yang. 120-140hz is smooth gaming/video. Smooth desktop is just grasping at straws. Like you really need a 120hz screen to see your cursor moving, or scrolling a webpage? Mouse/Input lag is response time oriented, not refresh rate. Better framerates = smooth gameplay... downside though is that with a higher refresh rate, you also have a desire to get at LEAST that high of a framerate in a game. Lower framerates, and more sudden drops in framerate are more easily noticed on a higher refresh rate. So uuh... yea... 120/140hz is more like 2 times better than 60hz.... for obvious reasons. And in case you missed it, the 120hz monitor i had WAS an Asus... not an Acer.

Odd. I do admit in the IQ departement these game monitors are a bit lacking. The only thing that gives me raging headaches is 3D at 30 fps. If you take me out to see a movie in 3D and it's not 48 fps or more (during Avatar I actually noticed stuttering and lag... in a movie I mean... WTF), I'll end up with a raging headache. Then again I'm a migraine patient.

Very interesting, you do not have issue with that alternative darkening of L-R eye which is basically stroboscope sending inputs from your eyes off-sync. I get from 120Hz Active 3D headache in like 5 minutes (So I prefer passive). You should check what actually annoyed you on that particular screen, not to run into same issue later. Sharp image is not only done by resolution, because pixels especially TN bleed light through places where shouldn't. If brightness of TN is too high it is more pronounced. If backlight is on when image transitions, you get distortion of image and ugly blur. Proper backlight strobe can produce very clear and sharp images compared to normal screens. And while ASUS users with VG248QE get bad colors at different refresh rates and LB. For my monitor yellow tinting was just stupidity on engineering level of Benq. I can say that LB with reduced brightness produces image with higher contrast, darker blacks and makes each image clearly distinct from another. If you manage to find out what was wrong with that screen for you, please let us know. (btw did you try it in 60Hz mode? Maybe it was really just terrible color, I know I could not stand how ugly benq made those gaming modes.)
