Following a recent update designated as KB5029351 (and KB5029331 for Windows 10) released on August 22, there has been an observed increase in blue screen errors.

Notably, these issues have been prevalent among systems that operate on Windows 11 22H2 or Windows 10 22H2/21H2 and feature MSI mainboards. The error message displayed is "Unsupported_Processor," which leads to automatic system restarts.

The update, which was initially designed to improve the search app functionality and rectify speech output challenges, seems to have inadvertently introduced these blue screen errors. In response to this, Microsoft has implemented a mechanism where if the KB5029351 update is identified as the disruptor, it will be auto-removed to maintain system stability. As referenced by Bleeping Computer, several Reddit users have attested that their systems removed the update following repeated blue screen-induced restarts.

Microsoft is currently examining the root cause, with preliminary investigations focusing on whether the issue originates from their side. A significant correlation has been noted between the blue screen errors and systems equipped with MSI motherboards. Some hypotheses suggest a recent BIOS update from MSI, intended to accommodate new Intel CPUs, as a potential trigger. Anecdotal evidence shows that reverting to a prior BIOS version allowed users to install the Windows update without the blue screen disruption.

For those affected, Microsoft recommends documenting their experiences using the Feedback Hub, a tool available via the start menu or Windows search. Detailed guidelines for its use can be found in Microsoft's support section. As both Microsoft and MSI continue their diagnostic and rectification efforts, users can anticipate subsequent updates on this matter.

Temporary Workaround

If you have already encountered this issue, KB5029351 might automatically be uninstalled to allow Windows to restore to normal. However, if KB5029351 is not automatically uninstalled, we recommend reverting your BIOS to the previous version and uninstalling KB5029351 from Windows.

If you are unsure of how to restore to older BIOS, this video link will help you on how to flash BIOS on MSI motherboards.
