Eying an AMD A520 motherboard? Well, they're coming.

Eying an AMD A520 motherboard? Well, they're coming.

A few weeks ago we've already seen ASUS and Gigabyte spill some silicon-based beans on A520, the true budget series motherboards in the AMD 500 series for Ryzen 3000 generation processors and below.

From ASUS we've seen mainly ITX motherboards name leaks, however, just in time for the weekend, ASRock adds 10 models into the mix. Asrock reveals 10 models through a listing before the Eurasian Economic Commission. Earlier on a slide from Gigabyte also confirmed the existence of the value motherboard chipset.

For ASRock these are the 10 models in question:

  • A520M Pro4
  • A520M Pro4 R2.0
  • A520M Pro4 R3.0
  • A520M-HDVP
  • A520M-HDV
  • A520M-HDV R2.0
  • A520M-HDV R3.0
  • A520M-HVS
  • A520M-HVS R2.0
  • A520M-HVS R3.0

As we see, there are actually 4 models or series with different SKUs. You're also going to see a A520M-ITX/AC and A520 TW,  albeit these have not been registered at the ECC just yet. The A520 chipset is expected to sit at PCIe 3.0, it will have less connectivity in its I/O, and it definitely will not support overclocking, allowing to reduce costs in a more value VRM design (as all supported procs run default frequencies). I/O connectivity is also more limited than the higher-end counterparts with 4 SATA ports, and 9 USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports. All of the boards are expected to be Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX form factors. A520 motherboards are expected to arrive only in an August or September timeframe offer the ability for true budget builds, but in the coming weeks, there first will be B550 based motherboards released of course.

That's a whole lotta SKUs for a product that isn't going to sell very well...

Considering most ryzen zen 2 chips dont overclock as high as their boost (not counting 3600), a520 should be sufficient for most people, unless A520 will limit ram / fclk speeds too

Perfect fit for a mini-PC with a 4400GE with 16GB of dual channel RAM.

the A320 was the best sold chipset in AM4 despite that you can get B450 for generaly around 20 Euro more and everything better with it.
the B450 have just passed in front when the X570 appear in shop.

i don't have any problem to stay locked at boost speed and more on load...and i am in "auto" in nearly everything in bios.
really an easy CPU.
