ASUS Maximus VIII Hero Alpha has RGB LED strip control

So the ASUS Maximus VIII Hero Alpha was already announced like late November, it's now in stores thougfh. This new motherboard is built on the foundations set in the ROG Maximus VIII Hero, and the most popular motherboard in the ROG Maximus VIII series is back with significant upgrades!.

What made the Hero highly desirable was the fact that it simply looked badass, or perhaps it’s also the ability to fully exploit the new Z170 platform using an Intel LGA1151 Core i7/i5/i3 processor and Dual DDR4 3733 (OC) memory with Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). The ASUS Maximus VIII Hero has an RGB LED controller that lets you set RGB color lighting across two independent 4-pin headers (typically connected to RGB LED strips).

This is all made possible by implementing 5-Way Optimization auto-tuning technology for easy performance boosts, power-savings, ultra-quiet operation or even custom audio/networking settings for games, Pro Clock technology in tandem with TurboV Processing Unit (TPU) turbo-charge the base-clock (BCLK) frequency on your 6th Gen. Intel processor, and Second-generation ASUS T-Topology for superior DDR4 memory overclocking, ensuring time-aligned signal transfer for stability and compatibility (which is not an easy task these days as we are hitting such high speeds for memory). The new Hero Alpha can push memory even further by supporting up to DDR4 3800+ memory.

Couldn't care less about the RGB headers. The big story on this board is the improvements and revision over the M8H. This thing has M.2 and U.2 without significant feature sacrifice. It also includes the latest driver packages which ASUS seems really slow to update on the initial release M8 boards. The M8H Alpha also includes an Intel USB 3.1 controller instead of ASMedia 3.1 found on the original M8H. Wifi and BT is another nice addition... not really a priority for a gaming board but I prefer it being there rather than not.

I've had my ROG Maximus VIII Hero since the end of August and love the look of the board. The performance has been great but I do hope Asus fixes the audio drivers because with their driver I was getting a loud pop every time the speakers woke up from a sleep type mode. I rolled back to the default Win10 audio driver and it fixed the issue. Also the GAMEFIRST III software added crazy lag to all of my downloads, they would go for a few seconds then stop for a second, then resume, really bad.
So I guess in short great looking board, great performance, bad software, don't install the Asus disk that is included, it just broke things for me.

One Day

I would love to see a new article comparing the "ASUS X99-E WS" with its 4 bus PCIExpress16x (16x,16x,16x,16x) as compared to the shared bus motherboards (Of any kind) as far as gaming performance difference. Why hasn't all motherboards created this? Maybe a new article Guru3D?
