AMD to launch 7th gen mobile APUs at Computex

AMD announced it will release the 7th gen Bristol Ridge-apu's during Computex. The new processor will be up-to 23% faster opposed to the predecessor, The products will make a debut  in their HP Envy x360

Bristol Ridge, much like Carizzo APUs use Excavator cores and will appear in dual- and quad-core solutions with support for DDR4 memory. Precise details have not been shared but according to speculation, these are still 28nm based fabbed APUs. AMD did share some benchmark results of a Bristol Ridge FX  and an A12 processor with 3Dmark 11, Cinebench and PCMark 8. Combined with 8GB 1866 MHz DDR4 memory. The results are close towards the Core i5 5200U processor from Intel.

AMD today announced early availability of its new mobile 7th Generation AMD A-Series Processors, timed to support an exciting new notebook design by HP Inc. Equipped with advanced video, graphics, performance, and security features designed to boost productivity and enhance the entertainment experience, 7th Generation AMD A-Series Processors (codenamed "Bristol Ridge") also provide outstanding energy efficiency. New OEM PC designs powered by mobile 7th Generation AMD A-Series Processors - from ultrathin notebooks and convertibles to sleek All-in-Ones - will come to market first with HP in the new HP ENVY x360 , and with other expected OEM announcements later in the year. AMD will officially introduce 7th Gen A-Series APUs and showcase a wide range of OEM designs at Computex 2016, May 31-June 4 2016, in Taipei, Taiwan.

"We know that consumers want more for their money than ever before - sharper graphics, faster performance, and longer battery life. We have focused on working with key OEM partners to develop outstanding computing platforms that will fully take advantage of the powerful 7th Generation AMD APUs," said Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager, Computing and Graphics Business Group, AMD. "I'm excited that consumers will start to see some of these fantastic systems come to market so soon. I'm very proud of the exceptional AMD engineering execution that enabled us to accelerate these exciting new products into the market for our customers and end users."

"It is exciting for HP to be first in bringing 7th Generation AMD A-Series APU technology to market, especially in such a compelling new notebook design," said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager, Consumer Personal Systems, HP Inc.. "We think the HP ENVY x360 will resonate with consumers who are looking for the entertainment- and productivity-enhancing capabilities of the ENVY x360 design, which really showcases AMD computing and graphics prowess."

Now shipping in volume to OEM customers are both quad- and dual-core 7th Gen AMD A-Series processors, featuring mobile-optimized "Excavator" x86 CPU cores for high-speed computing, and Radeon™ R7 or R5 graphics for smooth online gaming and enhanced HD streaming capabilities. When compared to the "Kaveri" based AMD FX™ mobile processor at the same power, new 7th Gen FX processors deliver up to 40% more single-threaded CPU performance .

The 7th Gen AMD A-Series APUs will allow users to enjoy the latest multimedia experiences in up to Ultra HD 4K video resolution, and AMD FreeSync™ Technology support for fluid, artifact-free on-line gaming performance in capable notebook and All-in-One configurations.

HP should learn that 15W belongs to 11.6~13.3" at most.

Alienware packs into their 11.6" HW eating a lot.
M11x eats 51W under full load.
M11x R2 eats 53W under full load.
M11x R3 eats 65W under full load.

And you will not get decent AMD 15W APU in notebook under 15.6" from anyone.
APU looks good, FX-8800P was good and this is better. But if HP again packs it with 4GB of ram in single channel and 1366x768...

Now we know why Sony is going for the PS4K upgrade. ...Expect an equal announcement from Microsoft at E3 2016. They both stem to gain so much, and Microsoft needs it way more for the Xbox brand.

Microsoft claim there will be no Xbone 1.5 or anything similar from them. They will not follow suit of Sony. Which is a shame really since the console does need a boost.

They'll probably try to sell the next console earlier with upgraded features. Or dx12 makes a broad appearance on XB1 earlier than anything on the PS4 happens, who knows.
